I took my time to review this school after relocating to the area. I think it is difficult to relocate and not have many choices for private education yet in Reno. We made a choice not to send our child here after a shadow day and meeting with the interim headmaster as well as speaking with educators in the area. This school is small and ill-equipped for bringing your child up in a "well rounded" atmosphere of balance. Understandably it looks like a safe haven because the price tag is high....do your homework as a prospective parent and shop around.....you'll find a much better fit with more variety for your child. I have heard that the Parent Association runs the school.....but wouldn't it, at $20,000 a year....money talks.....so be a smart consumer and listen and observe the details before you take the plunge into a small school in a small town that would make it difficult to procure an exit strategy. There are less expensive options with equal or better academics ---national merit scholars to boot....right around the corner for 1/2 the price and you get an athletics program.

I notice that most of the really good reviews are a few years old. The first year was ok, then the really good teachers started leaving in droves. We have had at least four teachers leave in the middle of the year, sometimes in the middle of the quarter, leaving the kids to start again with a new teacher. The headmaster was forced out last year, which was good to some and not so much to others. The interim headmaster seems to have short-timers syndrome.Remember all the mean girls you went to high school with? That's who makes up the parent's association and controls all aspects of social functions at the school. Overall, if you are a super-rich, white, helicopter parent with overly sheltered kids, this is the place for you. If your kid shows some individuality or somehow doesn't fit their mold, they will have no friends and get picked on. With the small student population there are no alternatives. At least two kids in my kid's grade became suicidal from the environment here. Not great odds in a class of less than 50.If your kid is a total overachiever and you are a helicopter parent or tiger-mom, great. You will fit right in. Otherwise, save your money.

This is a great school. Although the teachers expect a lot they are committed to helping the students achieve success. The classes really teach the kids how to think and form their own opinions. I know that attending Sage Ridge will provide my child with the tools to achieve success in college and beyond.
