Initially our children loved this school and all their teachers. After being there for 4 years they strongly dislike most of the staff. Some teachers pick favorites and will bully the other students they do not like. The middle school hands out so many detentions the principal informed me that she is behind on logging them, as she shows me a stack about 3-4 inches high of detentions she has yet to process. Many of the teachers lack the patience to work with children and are quick to hand out detentions for small things. Some of the teachers will harass students until they do something that gets them in trouble. They laugh about it and treat it like it is a game. One of my child's friends got an in house suspension for rolling in the snow after school. The high school is no better. They actually give less freedoms to the kids. They try hard to push kids that they don't want there out by harassing and punishing them for small and irrelevant things. There lack of concern for disabled children is highly worrisome and should be noted for anyone whom has a child on the Autism spectrum or any disability that can affect a child's learning. They were a good school before they started expanding, now a lot of good teachers are gone because they were tired of dealing with the school and their way of handling children. If you like to know about up coming events with prior notice this school will disappoint you. They regularly send emails and phones the day before some event is about to take place. They make it difficult for your schedule if you and your children do any activities outside of school.

Years ago, this was a great choice for a high school in Reno. That said, the last 4-5 years have been atrocious. Expanding the school is a good idea, but only if you have the funds to pay qualified teachers. The expansion caused the need for more teachers, but the money was not there to pay for experienced or qualified instructors. Now, it takes my younger brother over a month to get back the grade on a 3-page essay. This school has far too many issues to list here, and I think that most of those problems revolve around money because of the recent expansion. I am a full-time student in the NevadaTeach program at UNR, and this school's slow collapse is not a secret. Coral Academy employs teachers who are fresh out of college, without experience, and most of the teachers are trying to get some experience before going to a public school.

The chemistry teacher doesn't have enough knowledge in chemistry at high school level. This is the first year she teaches chemistry as she used to teach biology, so no wonder she makes mistakes in chemistry. She doesn't even try to improve the quality of her teaching style. Her grading method is not standard either. So far a lot of parents have complained but it seems the Coral high school director is not empowered (effective person) to make positive changes about this issue.

I am a parent of an 8th grader and a 4th grade student. The school used to be one of the best in Reno. It is not what is was few years ago when my kids started. The veteran teachers work very hard to get the students to understand the most challenging material. The problems started two years ago when the Coral Academy expanded 40% . The school started hiring a lot of new teachers. Some without any degree in the subject they are “teaching”. Some of the new teachers are very good and are doing their best to teach the challenging program. But some are very incompetent and do not make any effort to do a better job. If parents talk to the administration about their concerns those same teachers prefer to target their kids instead of doing something constructive and start actually doing their job properly. The administration is trying to do something but it is not very successful. We talked to the administration about concerns that we have and since then my kid’s English teacher is targeting my child in a very unprofessional way. It doesn't matter how much my child works or what is the quality of the job done she only gives my kid bad grades. The problems have become a lot more than any of the good things in the last two years and my kids will not be returning to the school next year. The elementary school is still a good alternative to most elementary schools in the public school system.

The teachers and admin are wonderful and helpful. He has been challenged in his work and encouraged to do his best. I love the cultural diversity of the student population as I believe it fosters the most necessary skill of tolerance. The school environment encourages kids to get along and to help each other. Not only is my child getting an excellent academic education he is learning to work and share with others, a vital element of success in the workplace.
