St Francis Academy Ratings & Reviews
This hidden gem is definitely not for everybody. Yes! It is old school and if you are looking for a new age, modern approach to education the school is not going to suit your needs. SFA teaches good manners, disciplene,respect to parents.. Ahhh.. and cursive. Result: Well mannered kids ready to achieve high in college!
There are plenty of great things to say about SFA. It has been a second home for my self, my children, nieces, and nephews for over 10 years. SFA is very strong in academics as well as in moral standards. There are many great schools out there to fit people's choices and for my family, SFA fits like a glove. I love that, in addition to great academics, SFA teaches our children to have good manners, to help and respect others, to dress modestly and elegantly, to be thankful and appreciate the sacrifices parents make for their well-being, etc. It seems that many of these traits have been lost in our society. SFA raises young men and women who are academically competent, humble and who want to do good. Many of the alumni have returned to SFA as teachers to continue the legacy the Franciscan Sisters instilled in them during their childhood years. Sadly, the sisters are nearly extinct but I believe they keep roaming the halls through the teachers, staff and the amazing principal. SFA is not for everyone, and that is ok. Intense academic demands and good character education are the pillars that placed SFA among the best private elementary schools in New Jersey, Blue Ribbon recipient and very worthy of such title. Go Tigers!
SFA is a Blue Ribbon school in name only. It lacks the diversity to effectively integrate children who are not in the majority. Their approach to education is teach by fear, punishment and guilt. This method is STUCK in the 1960's.At SFA, your child's individuality, sense of self-confidence and spirit will be crushed all in the name of "higher Terra Nova" scores. And in the end, what good is a great student who lacks imagination, self-determination and creativity?Please compare the SFA curriculum to neighboring parochial, private and charter schools. You'll find that the SFA difference is burdening loads of homework, which in the end does not guarantee your child's academic success. Finally, classes are crammed with 30 students or more, reducing your child's ability to learn with greater ease.My advice: Move to Edgewater or Nutley, invest the tuition money into higher property taxes (or rent) and send your child to a much better school.
There is not enough I can say about SFA! STRONG academics! STRONG sense of community and family! STRONG faith based morals and values! As a public school teacher, I chose SFA for these reasons! And the extracurricular programs they offer is just the cherry on top! There forensics team is amazing! All the students are happy, learn to work hard and go to outstanding high schools with scholarships!!!! I feel blessed that SFA is still going strong so my child can build her foundation there!
Superb school with moral values and great academics. Exceptionally family oriented. As the saying goes from the seed up, all up to the management, Ms Savege and Me Tolen (spelling?)
