The school is led by a competent and caring administration, the teachers are highly qualified and there is a wonderful community atmosphere throughout the building.

My child has attended TCCS from K-4th grade. I have never had to complain about TCCS, until now.My academic concerns are with the curriculum. Forth grade has been a challenge for my child. Only 1 writing HW per week in 4th grade, since September. I have been asking for extra assignments for writing, since November, and it has been ignored, until March. One book report per calendar year. Every June, my child's notebooks from every subject is about 30% used. My other concern is 4th grade math. My child's math test scores have been very low (mostly failing grades) this year. Math only gets harder. My child has completed all his online assignment. With persistence, I was able to convince principal for a tutor club for children who do not have IEP's. I have been asking for tutoring since 3rd grade. Now, in February 2017, is when tutoring is approved. My child's math tests has been in 60's and latest test was 40's.This tells me, my child is not learning and the math teacher is possibly covering up the low grades with retakes. My child has been observed and does not have any learning issues. Many parents are very concerned with these low test scores. As of March 2017, there has not been any science HW all year. The 4th graders will be taking a NJASK, science state wide exam. Children are learning science experiments in class. NJASK is a written test.Every year the musical makes money. Why are the children learning the same instrument (recorder), and same music every year? The musical should not displace students from their classrooms and lunch room. Our school should be known for our outstanding academics not just our performing arts. This year a total of Eleven 1/2days.Half days are not very productive, only the "specials" are being taught to children. Spanish is taught only one time a week. Kids learn same songs, words, every year. They watch same Spanish movies. There is no HW or quizzes in Spanish. On rainy days, kids are stuck in a small cafeteria, with no activities. My child tells me there is nothing to do indoors. All activities (board game, hula hoops, foosball table) are saved for after school students only.

I am disappointed that the school is slacking academically. The school's main focus seems to be the musicals. So much time and effort is placed on the "broadway musicals" , which is a major distraction from the academics. The parents purchase school supplies and the notebooks comeback empty every year. My child is not being taught properly about history, science, math. The kids are spending more time moving from class to class than actually being taught.

The idea of 18 kids per class is what has kept me in this school for 4 years. Plus the community feel. Academically, they could do better for just 18 per class. 320 in total for a small school. This year my child barely gets HW, there is no tutoring, and the resources for special needs kids is only 2 teachers.. Not enough. My child does average here, but would probably do better if he was challenged more. This school focuses more on their Musical plays than what is more important. There is no gym, barely a playground for kids. Let's just face it, they do not have the funds for what is needed. The spanish lessons are a joke, kids watch movies there. They only meet once a week and learn same words from 1st grade. There is no spanish HW. The teachers are super friendly, but do not know how to communicate w/ parents. This maybe my last here, do to the academics. If my child does not perform well this year and the HW situation doesnt get better, I am saying so long TCCS.... It would be a shame, because theh have potential, but dont have funds and I am not gonna risk it anymore.
