Sparta Alpine Elementary School Ratings & Reviews

This school is one step above a penitentiary. The physical plant is old, worn and cold. Declining test scores and bullying are rampant throughout tthe school. Their programs for gifted students is a joke. Regionalizing the school has been a disaster for the community and putting your kid on a bus for an hour is a nightmare. This school has gone downhill fast with no improvement is sight. Had to send our kid to a private school to get out of this place.

Alpine School is now a 3-5th grade school and it is phenomenal. Please disregard postings from 2008 and prior years. Sparta has undergone a major redistricting due to significant budget cuts by NJ Gov. Christie. Teachers had to be let go and the parents stepped up to fill in the gaps. Now two years later Sparta is back on track and I believe both the K-2 and 3-5 schools are wonderful (cannot comments on upper school since my children are younger but I have also heard nothing but good things about the middle 6-8th school). Alpine's Principal Gregory came from the middle school. He runs an efficient operation. Many teachers have master's degrees or have been there a number of years and are experts in their field. They are also very caring. The entire staff is. I have not met one person who didn't fill my children's needs academically or emotionally. I know they have excellent support services for those with special needs. They are trying to strengthen their STEP program for the advanced shining stars with a dedicated full-time teacher. Sparta's superintendent has to go, but I believe Alpine is an excellent school given the resources allocated to it.

We moved to this school district in April of 2011. So far, my children's experiences in the classroom have been positive. I felt inclined to post a comment after reading some of the past negative comments. There has been a major reorganization of the district (in 2010). Alpine is now a gr. 3-5 school with a male principal. There seems to be a good degree of communication with parents (most of it paperless) and my son is doing well. I do not have any complaints about his classroom experience.

I had to write a comment after reading reviews written for Alpine School. I have three children who are going or went to Alpine School. The teachers truly care about the students and strive to bring out the best in all of them. The school runs smoothly and is welcoming. Thanks to the Principal and Assistant Principal the students enjoy coming to school and the staff has always been supportive. As a parent you feel welcomed and I feel my children are receiving a great education!

I have two children at this school. My children like the school but I am far from happy. My children's teacher's are lovely but the Principle has her own adgenda and it does not seem to be the school's performance. The 'No child gets left behind policy' means that many children get bored and frustrated. If your child can read and write before they enter this school, their ability to progress further is non existant until the rest of the class has reached the same ability. The school changes from one policy to another and there is little consistancy. There are no options for individuality. I am sorry chose where I live in Sparta, an expensive mistake for my children's future. I should have moved to the other side of the lake!
