St Gerard Majella School Ratings & Reviews

Although there are some negative and derogatory comments below, I assure you that the individuals must be uninformed and unappreciative of the many academic and social advantages this educational institution has to offer. Furthermore, unlike these frustrated and perhaps jaded parents, I assure you my review will be grammatically correct and void of personal antagonism. First and foremost, my son transferred to Saint Gerard Majella this school year. The curriculum and academic rigor is of a higher level and more challenging than his previous school. Secondly, the lunch program has various options and all cafeteria workers / teachers take a personal interest in providing children nutritious food. They cook everything from plantains to pasta. Yes cook, not defrost and or thaw. Thirdly, my son has succeeded not only academically but socially. The school offers many opportunities to build a sense of community between church, school, and family. Lastly, Sister Jo-Ann (and this is how you spell it) provides a heartfelt effort in raising money in order to provide our kids numerous learning opportunities as well as fun filled events. I CLEARLY see that my son as well as myself have been positively impacted by Saint Gerard Majella School. As a mother and teacher, I know quality education when I see it. I'm sorry that other individuals feel differently, but every school has it's flaws. One person's experience does not reflect the values, beliefs, and academic success that this school provides to its children.

Amazing!!! Teachers are great and Principal is an Angel! I don't understand why this parent wrote this horrific comment about the school. None of what she said is true!! My child goes there and has same allergies and the I spoke to Principal and she took me to speak to the ladies in the kitchen and they told me not to worry that they will accommodate my child. And that instead of milk they will give my child juice. They send menus every month for breakfast and lunch. And they have a variety. So don't understand what she is talking about. If my child doesn't want what is on the menu I send my child with hot lunch. I just simply put in thermos that maintains food hot. And in all my time there I never ever heard about bullying. Sister Joan does not tolerated that. Sister Joan does not favor anyone. She treats everyone equally!!! To that parent,If you hate that school so much why you still have your child there? If you look at the menus that are sent every month you will see that there is a variety of healthy lunch which includes vegetables, fruit, milk, protein and grains. So I don't understand.Like you said time to move on. Not Happy then move on by taking him out. And don't say things that are not true. And I'm sure you know that.So please don't let this parent review and the others discourage you if you are looking into this school for your child . The school is GREAT!!! They do explain everything about fees, tuition and fundraisers.

Not worth the money. Please read my review it will help you. My son is being bullied by some classmates and principal isn't doing anything. My son is now on his 2nd year at this school. I thought my son was going to do good here but I was wrong, in fact, he now more lonely, self esteem dropped. Etc. my son have multiples allergies and food allergies. This school will not accommodate any kid even with you bring them all doctors legal documents. I agreed to prep his lunch at home and he would bring his lunch bag everyday but guess what? School only have a microwave for staff only. I offered to donate a microwave not only for my son but for all children but principal told me no. So basically no hot lunch for my son (daily) since the school monthly menu almost everything have cheese. Cafeteria manager offered me 2 choices for my son to eat (peanut butter and jelly sandwich or turkey sandwich) to me that's not lunch. Almost my son have asthma. This school doesn't have a nurse onsite only 2 times a week and nurse will not give kids their albuterol because school does not have a nebulizer. My son also have an epicenter due to his food allergies. I asked them, since you don't have a nurse. Who would give my son his shot in case of emergency.? Their respond almost killed me. They said they usually call kids family to give them any meds if needed. I wanted to cry. Teacher aren't the best. Lack of communication between teachers and parents doesn't is horrible. If you have a smart but active kid, st Gerard isn't for your child. It can be 55 to 60 degrees outside and kid don't go outside. How do you expect kids to behave good when this school keep them sitting for 8 hours.. no activities besides church and fundraisers. Principal show lots of favoritism towards children who's parents are cops, doctors, teachers or if you work in school events for free. Only good thing about st Gerard is school is safe, no food fights,is clean and kids learn the importance of god. This don't have field trips. School only have 2 trips in a school year and it's go go to another church and students must pay $20 to go. Please don't waste your money here. If you don't want Paterson public schools then move to a better town. I have so much more I can say about st Gerard but I just want to put everything behind us and move forward. I hate this school so much. School principal (Sis Joan) is the worst.

The school is very expensive which they do not state when they are taking your enrollment fee. I technically paid 200 or so dollars which btw they do not refund for them to tell me the tuition each month. I am a single parent of two children I wanted to show my kids religion and but not at a place where money is paramount to their education. Thanks but no thanks!! I will not by any means refer anyone I know to this school. I will also make it my duty to let everyone I meet that is looking for a catholic school to put their child that St Gerard Majella the thieves is not the way to go!!
