Oaklyn Public School Ratings & Reviews

My two children have received a quality education over the past 5 years at Oaklyn School. Almost all of the teachers have taken special care to teach them in the way they learn best. My eldest received extra help in reading/language arts through the school for 2 years and is now an avid reader on the Honor Roll every marking period. My youngest reads a full grade above what's suggested by age. The Oaklyn students who move on to Collingswood High School repeatedly make up a large percentage of the top of their graduating class each year so something is clearly being done right at Oaklyn to prepare students for High School. I have never had a problem with communication with the administration. I don't know what the person who complained about PTA is talking about - the reason it's always the same people running PTA is because nobody else will volunteer. It's not because new people aren't welcome. The PTA also brings in extra funds for educational programs and teacher needs - it's not just social activities. Maybe take some time to be more involved instead of just complaining and you'll see whatever changes you seem to want. I'm not sure why someone would downplay the role of OEF, either. That organization finds money to pay for the technology people are complaining the school lacks. So, yes, it is an important group. OMAYSC is a borough organization, not a school organization, with the purpose of preventing drug & alcohol issues. Very important. The only downside I could see with Oaklyn School is the lack of enough computers for the number of students, which they have been correcting over the past 2 years. Even that I don't see as an issue - I managed to be successful without doing all of my schoolwork on a computer and up to this point my children have had adequate time on the school's existing computers for projects.

Oaklyn School is like a family the teachers are the best, caring, kind, amazing at what they teach! There are younger siblings to the older Jr. High students which helps so much making sure they pick them up after school and it really helps with a sense of security. It is a unique school pre-K up to 9th grade and the students who graduate come back to visit saying I wish I was back here I just had the best education and teachers! The Oaklyn school has many programs which are so helpful the PTA helps students with assemblies and helps out teachers with the angel project and buying extra supplies with a teacher grant program. It is very important to join the PTA who are parents themselves who give of their time to help studetns and teachers have a wonderful school environment. We do annual things at our school that kids look forward to every year and they become traditions! The administration knows exactly what they are doing and is fair to all! To put down the principal as one other did is appauling she does an outstanding job at every angle, she can't have people walking all over her they need to know she is educated and knows what's best for students and parents! I would highly recommend Oaklyn Public School it is a family friendly kind place for your child to have a wonderful enriching education!

Kids are on track, well prepared for next grade, teachers are over the top helpful. Many different ways to be involved in the school and community. A great school all around

Oaklyn is holding on by a loose thread and unfortunately the children are being cheated out of a quality education compared to their counties peers. Whether it's because the school houses Pre-k to 9 I have no clue but not enough people are paying attention to the severe lack of educational standards. 1st - 3rd grade are doing lower level work and are not prepared to join their 4th- 6th grade peers to their board of educations own testing & admissions at the level other schools are learning. 7th - 9th believe they are being prepared to move on to Collingswood high school when in actuality it is the Woodlynne & Collingswood students that are bringing in the higher test scores and are more prepared. There is simply no longer a place for this school, maybe consolidating with Collingswood will make their own superintendent care more about a school in his own district. Education should be a priority, things like Omaysc, Oef, Pta and others are mere distractions to bigger problems. I don't know why a reviewer went on about ice cream socials & family fun nights, it has no place in a school if your child is behind. Why not put the money somewhere beneficial like the childrens education.

Administartion is down right bad an have no clue what they are doing,. The principal sits on her thrown telling her parents that they have no rights when it comes to their children,. the school is so far behind in technology in what other schools around the ares are teaching,.. Having the grammar school along with the jr high is strange at times. one talent show i saw a jr high girl hanging on a jr high guy sitting right next to a 1st grader, the jr high kids have the same teachers for all three years they are there so there is no diversary,.i find the extra things that the OMAYSC advents are rather boring and poorly run,.once you graduate from here you get to attend Collingswood high school which is just as bad educationally,.(Collingswood like Oaklyn) if you are adverage or need special need help forget it,. you get left by the waste side,. The administartion likes fitting everyone into the same educational box,. I found no reason in joining the PTA,. there is nothing that you get from it,. same people have been running it from year to year and don't like outsiders helping unless it is something that as a whole does not want to do,.
