I have 2 boys in Lazar, 6th and 7th grade. they're both good students (honors) and are nicely challenged. I love some teachers, others less so. I think that's typical in any school. It's lacking in activities that create a happy environment. My boys would love activities at school - there are none of interest, so we do it all outside. it's a shame, more extracurricular activities would be great for their social skills development.

I am an incoming 7th grader at Lazar, and thoroughly enjoy being at this middle school. The students are kind and the teachers are(usually) very awesome. they have taught me many interesting things that seem very useful. The school includes a wide variety of subjects, and you have your own free choice to choose classes mostly during 8th grade. There is a lot of work to do, but I believe it is worth it, and students who complain are simply exaggerating. Personally, I think they should suck it up. Though some teachers should be less cruel about miniscule mistakes. Overall, I think Lazar middle school is a great choice, and if you try your hardest, you will prosper.

Lazar is fine for the middle of the road, compliant child who doesn't ask too many questions. If your child is a thinker, the teachers will knock him/her down. It is like basic training. They try to break the kids down before building them up. Unfortunately, in our three years there, the building up never happened. While there were a few wonderful teachers that went out of their way for all of the students, there were many that had no tolerance. Lazar is very proud of being a no tolerance school. This really means that if students are not little soldiers, there is no tolerance. The principal is weak, and the assistant principal is on a power trip. If you have a child that has any learning issues, go elsewhere. They do not follow 504s or IEPs. My son, with an IEP, worked for many hours on a project, but lost 20 points for the margin being off by a fraction of an inch. His IEP was worthless. After I contacted the school, he was punished by the teacher mentioning my email in front of the class. These sort of things happened to many children there, not just my child. Please don't send your children to Lazar.
