Our experience in the school was average-above average. Overall the kids are very smart and a lot of parents are super involved. That’s what results in strong testing and overall high academic achievement. Our impression is that the teachers just about average overall. There was hardly any one who sparked a love of learning in my child. Around every corner there was a test or homework lurking. Teachers are inconsistent on how they post the homework. Some disciplined ones consistently use Google Classroom. Others mention it in class or put in on the board. Most teachers never bothered to return graded tests in time to learn from them. Many never gave them back so (presumably) they can use it the following school year. Some teachers have been at this school for so long they feel they are not answerable. From what my kid told me, some regularly made snide remarks in class towards the kids. The student body moves in cliques primarily moving with kids they knew in elementary school. It’s very strange to me they are largely closed to new friendships at such an early age.The school focuses on organization and self representation to your teachers and administration. These are both admirable ideas that students should develop. However kids don’t develop at the same pace. Largely, girls at this age are more mature and organized. Most boys are not. So they lose points on binder checks etc and don’t make the A (set at 94%) needed to be accepted in accelerated courses even though they excel at the academic material. It's too bad most of the teachers don't demonstrate these ideals themselves. There is vaping in the school, apparently even in some bathrooms. The neighborhood is wealthy, and many kids and parents have a sense of entitlement.Overall, your child’s experience will depend on him/her. If she follows the rules set by the teacher, is organized, works hard and follows the rules, she will excel and amazing opportunities will open up. Otherwise not. The teachers will not motivate your child to do better or learn. This is not an environment for creative out of the box thinkers. It's a pressure cooker which encourages you to keep your head down.To sum it up...Drive of kids/parents A+Teachers motivating students B-School facilities (excl Cafeteria) A-Cafeteria C

Way too much homework, emphasis on testing (without the courtesy of promptly sending home graded work!!) and grades! unnecessary stress. Overcrowded cafeteria that should have been renovated/expanded 20 years ago but always gets shifted to the lowest priority in the district. (Right now the highest priority in the district appears to be instituting more technology in the classroom. ) Kids have about ten minutes to eat lunch (!) and no outdoor time at all to decompress (unless they happen to have P.E. and the weather is good. bad coordination of MMS teams. Poor leadership. There is a new principal now, hopefully he can make desperately needed positive change in a timely manner!!!

I attended Millbrun Middle School from 1994-1998. I found the course offerings to be very challenging and the student body was composed of a academically motivated diverse student body. There were a number of extracurricular offerings ranging across sports, music, theater, various clubs and other avenues for students to express their interests. I will say, the atheltic facilities were lacking and often sporting practices and contests were held at other venues. All in all, Millburn Middle is a fine instition which sits in a very beautiful and nurturing community of Millburn-Short Hills. I highly endore this school system.

I am a parent of a student who is entering the school this September as a six grader. Long before the school start date we had already been invited to an orientation session at the school including discussion of the transition from elementary to middle school, overview of the school, tour-around of the school and many common issues parents/students would encounter. In particular the session on preventing students from drug uses and violences is extremely helpful. The students also got a chance to visit and mingle with their peers at a special weekend party. I know many parents who have kids at the school now and they are very happy about the school and would recommend it to all their friends.
