S Hunterdon Reg High School Ratings & Reviews
My son has just completed two years at South Hunterdon and he has already had a great experience socially, academically, and in extra-curricular. The school size is much like a private boarding school, which gives it an nurturing intimacy that a gigantic public school simply cannot offer. He has been able to choose exactly what he wants to do, and at a level which ideally suits his development. Getting into the right AP classes was straightforward, whilst he only had to put his name down for the soccer team and the marching band and he was in. This does NOT mean the programs are sub-standard. Far from it. Teaching has been excellent, whilst the soccer teams are all competitive (and many of the younger ones also play together for the local travel team). Meanwhile the music program is truly outstanding, with various seniors getting music scholarships and national awards. We have been very happy with the school.
South is a unique place that my children love being a part of. The caring and supportive environment only assists in the learning process. Every teacher, administrator, and staff member knows my children's name. They are connected to who they are and how they learn. It is great to feel connected to how your children are doing in the classroom. I will get an email from a teacher if something is out of character for my children like a missing homework or a low test grade. That is not the case in other schools. We are fortunate to be a part of such a special place one that my children will remember fondly.
$20 Million in renovations? Are you kidding me? Where did it go? We took our high achieving son out of South because it DOESN'T offer anything of value to the students! Then we were called by the school and begged to keep him in South! Maybe the money should have been invested in compeditive classes for the kids. The graduating class size is small for a reason, no one wants to go to SHRHS. It can offer nothing that Central can and when parents of SHRHS start to look at going to college for their children they will relize that their children have missed out a A LOT of classes that other chidlren have taken that South have never offered. South has a long way to go and doesn't look like its going to ever change. South offers nothing to children of special needs and are closed minded. Removing our son was the best thing we have ever done for him, he is in the top 10% of his class nationally and could NEVER have been ranked that high by going to South. Good luck to those parents who think South is best thing, open your eyes and see what your kids are missing!
With over $20 million in recent renovations and excellent Superintendent all makes for a prime learning environmant
This school just has the great small school experience, the students have the close relationship with their teachers. The sports are the same way. I am a tuition student to South Hunterdon and I completely enjoyed every minute spent at the school.
