James J. Ferris High School Ratings & Reviews

Hello, I'm the same student who wrote a review on February 9, 2013. I'm currently a senior. It wasn't fun being here to be honest. My life just got worse. I thought it would be okay when I decided to stay there in my sophomore year but now I kind of regret that decision. I spent too much time worrying that I didn't even accomplish anything in the past four years. Now I can't even afford to go to one of my dream colleges let alone attend a college out of the state. Please, future students, if you really care about your future ambitions please do whatever it takes to make decisions that benefit YOU, even if it means transferring. I can understand that some teachers and staff members try to do their job, but if their best reason is "I'm just doing my job" then you have the right to doubt your reliance on them. This school is okay for the laid back "high achievers" who depend solely on the system (and want teachers to "like them") to redeem a sense of achievement. They offer more opportunities to those who maintain the work but they tend to emphasize "hard work" a bit too much. If you're a Finance student, okay that's cool you can probably do things that you can pad on your college application or potential resume. You can probably get a B or above in a class by just doing that work, but rarely do we ever actually retain what we learn. The point is, if your goal is to work with something related to business then this school is an okay choice. But if you are like the past version of me, you'd probably want to bring your efforts somewhere else. It's highly unlikely you'll be "college-ready" by studying here. The only thing difficult I went through is the social atmosphere from day one. A lot of the students will complain about something in class that is "hard" or "too much work", when in reality it's not. They'll sometimes even say certain teachers are "hard" when it's not even true. Almost all of them have the same standards. The reason why I can't do well anymore is because I lack focus in my life and my attention span is not what it used to be, but that's more of a personal issue. I've lost my ambitious ways but I mostly blame myself. Don't take it personally. I just have yet to find like-minded students there who share my goals, not even the high achievers. It's already my last year here. P.S: The Board of Ed. makes me irritated.

I love this school. The staff is filled with a lot of love. As a student, class of 2015- I am extremely grateful to the administrators. This school is not as bad as people put it. God is in it. With more prayer, this school will be the best in Jersey city. God bless James J. Ferris High school and its principal Mr. Morales.

To the teacher that wrote this: "I am a teacher at this school and I can tell you for a fact it is a absolute dump. Ghetto kids who don't want to learn with a faculty that with a few exceptions can't teach. An absolute disgrace!" You are an absolute disgrace to our profession! You are probably one of those teachers you are talking about that can't teach...and you obviously don't care about our students. If you hate it so much, go find another job and leave the teaching to those of us who care!

I'm a freshman in this school. I believe that the majority of the students are not interested in academics, and there are at least 1-2 fights a week. Most of them don't follow the rules, and some of them they barely have any respect for the teachers. Although I can't say everyone there is like that. (If that were to happen, it would be the worst school ever. Luckily it's not.) These students lack discipline. They think they can just do what they want and they are too relaxed. I'm surprised that recently most of the clubs no longer exist. Yes, they have some sports, but there should be more than that. I believe we need more school involvement. Some teachers need to actually teach us, and give us lessons thoroughly. There are at least some good teachers who actually care about our education and are eager to help.
