I am a sophomore in HHS currently. Over these past 1.5 years I have seen much. Teachers: The quality of the teachers varies greatly. There are some who truly care about you and try to help you in every way possible. Whether its staying after school or coming in early for extra help. However, there are also many teachers who just don't care. They will teach their class (sometimes the quality of their teaching is quite poor too) and then leave promptly at 2:25. They don't make any effort in helping you and unfortunately education is a two way street. Both the student AND the teacher must put in effort to see results.Guidance Counselors: My guidance counselor is amazing! She is so nice, helpful, and is there for you whenever you need her. I have heard equally as wonderful things about the other counselors as well. (NOTE: Your guidance counselor is probably the MOST important person of your high school life. They are the ones who will guide you and they are also the ones who send out your high school transcript to colleges, get you scholarships, and anything else college-related. Make sure you maintain a friendly relationship with them. :) )Extracurricular Activities: There is a wide variety of clubs and teams for students of all different interests. In general, this school is great but you do have to make an effort to get the most out of it. We are the 42nd best high school nationally, so obviously majority of HHS's students do academically well. I really do like the school and look forward to my last 2.5 years here.

School is outdated. There are no air-conditioning in all hillsborough school district. Teachers aren't available for extra help after school. Very poor infrastructure.

Quality of teachers varies. A few are great, some good but most just don't care and are only there to collect a paycheck. Teachers are not required to stay after school to help students and if your child does need help some teachers require 24 hours advanced notice. It seems like so many parents have their child privately tutored because of poor teaching. Most of the emphasis is on sports and less on the academics. If you have a child with special needs they do very little to help the student and are not willing to provide accommodations that is in the best interest of the child. Teachers have complained that implementing such needed accommodations is too difficult because of the very large class sizes and that there just isn't enough time. I moved to this town years ago because of the high school rankings but unfortunately the school ranking continues to fall below satisfactory levels. In fact, it has been published in newspapers that students are not prepared for college level math and english and as a result remedial courses are required in college.

It is a good school overall. The teachers have been great. They are very available to parents and students. Besides being highly qualified, they truly care about the students. I wish the same could be said about the administration. They are inflexible and unhelpful.

I am a freshman at Hillsborough High School class of 2016. I have closely observed many positive and negative values of the school design. The design of the school was not planned out in any way. As the population grew, the school had to make multiple additions. The 700/800s addition may just be the worst part. This wing of the school, while being the newest part, is isolated from the main building. To reach this two-level section of the school, you must travel above the library, through the 600s, and back down a flight of stairs to reach the 700s. The library is between the main building and the 700s, but can only be accessed through the main building. It serves as constant roadblock, and causes one to travel upstairs, just to go downstairs back to the main building. The old part of the school has horrible water fountains, classes with no temperature control, but has easy access to the Commons, the nurse, and the gym. The school appearance is dated. I looked at the floors in the main building, and the fake tile is chipped and dirty. The water fountains have dead bugs inside of them and the bathrooms are unsanitary. The school just needs help.
