Marine Academy Sci & Tech Ratings & Reviews

Although the Marine Academy of Science and Technology presents itself as a safe, nurturing environment, the school cares more for its reputation than some of the students. Because of the constant favoritism for some kids over others, especially kids who are in activities such as Drill or who volunteer at the Center, other students are prohibited from reaching their full potential. As an LGBT student, I was horrified at the comments made towards my community and me by members of the faculty as well as students in the school. As predicted, this greatly hindered my ability to flourish as a student. I believe that the constant favoritism of students and the homogeneous student population can create for an extremely toxic environment, especially for someone of the LGBT community.

Teachers and administration are amazing. They truly care about each student's needs and progress. The school really provides personalized attention and believes in thoroughly preparing them for college. Top notch education and care of students are their top priority and this proves to be evident.

Superb school. Motivated teachers and students lead by an outstanding Principal results in a critical mass of academic excellence. Concur with previous reviews. This school is indeed not for everyone. The level of academics is challenging even for some of the brightest students in (and some from outside) Monmouth County. One of the great things about the school is the location. Sandy Hook is one of the great spots in the USA for a Marine Science school. In addition to MAST, the immediate area contains NOAA and Brookdale College Marine Biology Lab.

This is an amazing school, in large part due to it's mission, its culture, and the students. The teachers are fair to good, some very good. Students mainly excel due to being the counties brightest students who can handle the heavy workload, which at times, can be extreme. Any one considering attending MAST should count on spending most every weekend doing homework, much of which is project oriented. There is no spoon feeding, self discipline, if not obtain by students before entering MAST is quickly achieved in order to survive. The mandatory Navy JrROTC program nurture's the enviroment. Junior and Senior classes are more like college courses in level of difficulty speed of the instruction and independent study required. The lack of sports makes it a different type of school. MAST is not for everyone. Those who attend love the school and are prepared to enter the toughest colleges.

Specialized county technical public high school with competitive entry. Outstanding test scores and math/science curriculum, weaker on arts. Numerous national and state awards. Required USN Jr. ROTC participation not for all.
