My child is about to graduate 8th grade and I have nothing but positive things to say about every aspect of our experience at this school

My daughter is going to 7th grade at LMS this year. So far I really like this school. She is a good student because she get all the support that she need from the administration and the teachers which she loves. She was a honor roll student the entire year last year and now in 7th grade she is taking pre-Algebra. It is import that we the parents always support our kids while they are at school, good grades do not come by themselves, they are the result of a collaborative work between teachers and parents.

Overall I have been pleased with my child's experience at LMS. She has had some wonderful teachers that she absolutely loved, and was a member of the science club and student ambassadors last year. There are other clubs to join such as Drama Club (who put on a great show this year) as well as intramural and school sports (track, soccer, basketball etc). The administration and staff have been attentive to my concerns and were happy to set up meetings when requested. The PTO helps with raising money for activities and supplies and runs school dances throughout the year. My child had homework in all subjects (some daily assignments and some weekly) and the parent portal is a great way to see their progress on assignments and tests. There are of course a couple of improvements that can be made - the lockers are old and sometimes they are short on materials. However, I feel that LMS provides a safe learning environment for my child who was able to thrive there this year. Middle School is the most difficult time in everyone's school career and I think that they are doing everything they can to help keep these kids on the right path.

"I have only negative things to say about this school. I've witnessed bullying after school at dismissal almost every day, there are not enough text books for the students, yet the PTO just finished a several year long fundraiser to purchase new bleachers? Children are not allowed to carry water with them even in 95 degree weather with no air conditioning. She receives 0 homework every night because her teachers ""don't feel like it."" Items are stolen from lockers on a regular basis, very few clubs and activities, revolving principals and staff. There are bars on the windows - I don't even want to venture a guess as to why this is. Class sizes are enormous and students receive very little one on one help. The school listens to my concerns but nothing is done to remedy anything. The whole district is an absolute disaster - if you want your child to get a decent education this school and Hawthorne in general are not for you."

"I know middle school is a rough time, but this school just tops it all. I went here for two years, & I hated it! It's true many students move b/c of bullying, I am one of them. I'm about to be a senior, in a high school much worse than HHS. But, I'm happier here than I was in Hawthorne! The classes are overcrowded, some had about 40 students. The kids were so mean, and there were fights everyday. I was called names in front of teachers who did nothing! Especially don't send a special ed child here, I've seen them get bullied by ""friends"" and not even realize it. There's two types of students: There's snobby kids who have parents involved in the town, or kids from Paterson who are ILLEGALLY IN THE SCHOOL. I don't have anything against them, but Paterson's drugs & violence spread over to LMS. Nobody ever does anything, although everyone knows about it. Btw: It's true the band teacher is rude, everyone says it!"
