My daughter has been in school 3 for the past 3 years. We have had a great experience so far. Where I do have a problem is the Board of Education not providing enough help for the school. We have great teachers and a great principal, all schools should be financially supported.

Fort Lee #3 is a blue ribbon school with high standardized test scores, although some parents criticize the school because they believe that non-Asian students get left behind. There really is no truth to that. All kids are treated equally, except the high achievers get challenged more. There is no special treatment of Asian kids. However among their families their is a huge emphasis and pressure for achieving high grades. There is ESL for kids who don't speak English. Many are Korean, Japanese and some are Latino. There are very few African American kids in school, because that's the makeup of our town. The only thing that kids need to compete are to work hard, parental support and sometimes after school educational programs. All three of which, most, if not all, Asian parents are willing to provide.

My child is older and has attended the school for several years. Kindergarten and first grade were the worst years. The teachers focus on the Asian students, and single out the others. I felt there was discrimination from the school for those years. When I discussed this with the principal it immediately stopped and things became smoother after second grade. The teachers in the upper grades are much better than the teachers in the lower grades. This school is also very over crowded.

This school is over populated. My child's kindergarden class has 24 students with just 1 teacher, no assisate. Girls out number boys, in her class 19 to 5. It's almost all asians, which in it of itself is of no concern, however, majority of these students do not speck English so for the first half to 3/4 of the year the teachers spend all their time on those children leaving the English speaking ones to fend for themselves with a few work sheets to do on their own. What makes it more annoying is that those parents speak English perfectly well, but insist on not teaching their children, leaving that to the kindergarden teachers to do. They even purposely send their children to all Korean or Japanese speaking pre-schools to prevent them from learning English too early. My child, along with her few English speaking friends were always singled out for being too talkative and restless. My child comes home every day complaining that the teacher doesn't do anything with them. All she does all day is sit and write in her book, draw on her own and do work sheets on her own. This school is perfect for new immigrants who need extra attention, just not average English speaking children.

My child is in kindergarten and I do not like the staff nor his teacher. I have reported couple incidents and the people there do not get back to you. I am speaking to a wall when I'm talking to the teacher or principal. Nobody gets back to me and when I ask them again, they hardly remember. Also, there are lots of problems during lunch and recess where supervision is low. Homeroom teachers don't want anything to do with it since they are not on duty during those times. I can't wait to move out.
