My son is a first grader. We found that the teachers here would not put any effort in teaching kids at all. Teachers would spend their day on their computers and let students play on their iPad all time. Once or twice in a week, they would scratch the homework for some reason. When they give homework, they give some random unrelated homework where students have no clue how to do it because they have never done anything similar to that at school. Often teachers would inform students to let parents help the homework. we don't have any problem helping homework, but when we ask the students, they have never seen anything similar solved at school. When the progress card is created, there are no written feedback on what to improve or the reason why a grade is announced. You will just see some random numbers being put on the progress report and there is no way to make sense of it on what/how something need to be improved.. I think the teachers are too lazy to teach anything at school and they are taking their pleasure time at school and just warming their chars at school. It is an easy and low paying job, I understand, but you can always do a better job teaching kids. If you are considering this school for your kid, please do a favor to your kid, do not consider this school district.

Lincoln School one final try this year. They have made out my child to either be a trouble maker(in last year) or very "slow" because he gets over the slow pace of the classroom When we took him to a neurologist as per the suggestion of the guidance counselor teacher and principal we found out that there is nothing wrong with my son except that he was getting bullied at school and had no one who would stick up for him. Instead they decided to take advantage of my son being good and honest and always tells the truth the school treated him with punishment and not to those bullies who were passing bad comments about mother and using words which they are not suppose to at this age.I don't know what their parents must be teaching them to these bully kids. and school knowing this fact they punish him when he defended himself from a child that constantly bullies him. They claim to take bullying seriously but seem to always blame the victims instead. I am going to complain this fact to school district too if they are not going to take the proper action on those kids.

I have to say good (not great) because while it's currently great for my daughter, it previously was not so great for my son. There have been several improvements since my son was there. Part of this may be that the principal changed. Part of it may be the teachers my kids were assigned to. I also often say you have to know what is best for your individual child. OLDER CHILD: My now 8th grade son went to Lincoln for full-day kindergarten (which has since been reduced to a half-day) and first grade. I was not pleased with his progress. He was a preemie and I requested speech therapy and was denied several times. This seemed to also affect his reading. I had to wind up supplementing with my own efforts and sending him to Rutgers' summer reading program (which is excellent by the way!) My son become frustrated with Lincoln and did not enjoy school. I switched him to Metuchen Christian (which gave him free speech therapy for a few years). Now he is happy, engaged, reads well, and has been on the honor roll alot.Younger child: My daughter attended Lincoln last year for first grade and now second grade. She is thriving and will probably remain at Lincoln for the rest of her elementary school years. One new change is now the kids all have access to laptops. For first graders its school use only, but they get to take them home each night in the 2nd grade). They are doing all sorts of things my son never did, like using google docs, creating slide shows, internal school email, using educational websites like prodigy, etc. She also participates in the school's new weekly computer coding class. They also now have a nice playground (which was built after my son left). There also seems to be more of an effort to push school spirit and pride. The new principal is very friendly.
