I'm surprised to see that the student:teacher ration is 11:1. This was never the case for us, as class sizes in the lower grades seemed to average at least 18:1. From what I heard about the older grades it exceeded 22. Parents should be aware the the Blue Ribbon award was in 2007, which preceded the current administration. Although they clearly score well on standardized tests, if you are looking for a pedagogical approach that incorporates STEAM or opportunities for your child to grow and become critical thinkers, I would consider something else. This district might get there some day, but from what I can tell it's not a current focus. I also didn't find this school to be diverse, but perhaps the larger district is what provided the score here. Equity and access are very important to me, and I'm not sure how the district does overall in this regard. There also seemed to be a lot of challenges with the parent/teacher organization that I heard about and it sounded like it made a lot of parents not want to participate. Overall, the school is fine but didn't seem challenging academically by any means.

We moved from this school district and our kids started in the different school district. I waited to write a review for Oak View elementary to compare with new schools. Oak View is a very bad school for my children because we weren't a family born and raised there. Oak View Elementry School managed by the rule of favoritism. Kids with the parents that linked to school especially principle were even allowed to bully younger grades. While this school lets go very good teacher, principle hires week teachers because they are from the area. The worst organization in this school is HSA. I always wondered how is a diverse community like Bloomfield, NJ Oak View Elementary HSA has no diversity at all.

So enriching, beyond the academics and a caring community.

My son attended Oakview from K to 2nd but left halfway through 2nd grade. The principal, Mrs. Ditrani, is one of a kind who truly cares about her staff and every student. She is more than a principal. She did crossing guard duty, security, drop off/pickup zone monitor, and even a playmate to our son when we were late to pick him up. His teachers were all wonderful; Mrs. Flores, Ms. Romano, and Mrs. Ferrante. He was met with new challenges every school year yet was able to cope and learn because of them. Oakview prepared him well for his new school. We found that Oakview was well ahead of his new school despite the fact that both are similarly rated, 9, in GreatSchools.org and both are the best schools in the township. So parents who have children attending Oakview and for those thinking of sending their kids there should feel lucky and at ease knowing that their children will get the best education TAX money could buy.
