My experience at Marist can be described as amazing to say the least. It truly has changed my life. There are so many opportunities and programs that they offer.

Marist was an okay experience for me, not the best school I've attend, and not the worst. I make some great friends here, but also have to contend a lot of annoying and inefficient people. Here' s a list of pro and con. Pros of this school: - students and teachers are generally nice and friendly. There's some rumour shady drug going on but I never see anybody doing anything bad. The worst crime ever committed in this school was some inappropriate picture incident. - Chromebook: students can take note on their laptops in certain classes- The workload is light and easy for me, but since I come from an Asian school, this opinion might be a little bit skewed - VHS: they allow students the flexibility to take extra AP classes online and give them free periods to do Cons: - Terrible AP Classes: every year only 2-3 students pass and there are only 4-6 AP classes, with only 1-2 of them being legitimate. Most teachers who teach AP classes have no experience of the AP test itself. I bet if they sit for the exam, they would most likely get a 1, but the math class was good and the history alright. - A lot of teachers are inexperience and don't know what they teach, which is a result of terrible division of labor since some teachers are pushed into subjects they don't know. - No SAT prep class and the average SAT score of this school is way below national average. School does nothing to address this problem. - the religion classes are horrid and boring, even though the religion teachers are very nice. They better teach Kant and Aristotle, though, instead of how to make a brochure or some other useless project as if students are a bunch of kindergartens. - stupid extraneous fees under guises of walkathon and whatnot - some classes ban Chromebook, and teacher don't know how to take advantage of technology. Can't blame them though, with the tenure contract thingy most of the teachers here are old and not up-to-date. In conclusion, the academics is horrible, the people are nice, and most people say they only go here for sports, but even though the school itself is not bright academically, it does give you opportunities to advance on your own if you know how to take advantage of it. I get into an ivy league by a lot of self-studying and by always staying top of my class, so all in all, Marist was not so bad an experience.

This school seems to be more of a workers boot camp than anything else. They have a large focus on detentions, rather than creating an actually good learning environment with student/teacher interaction. They focus more on creating good workers than smart students. I've noticed many students in the honors program who complain about lack of sleep because of homework, which most of the time is not benefiting learning. In about half my classes there is complete silence from the students and lack of participation because of the boring and non-organic environment that is created. Also they say they are a family but it seems more like a boot camp, like I've said before, where you aren't allowed to talk unless spoken to and you are to obey all commands, although plenty of teachers try to avoid this, some take it very seriously. Worst of all in terms of discipline is the use of intimidation to instill fear on students so that they don't break the rules. They have bad sports programs and waste money on other things like automatic curtains in the auditorium. The tuition also seems to be overpriced. Overall this school is for students who are endanger of being involved in the wrong crowd.

"You can't be serious about this school. It really is a joke. I spent 2 years here and could not wait to transfer out and I was in the Honors program. The person in charge of discipline favors the jocks. He does not have a handle on things. Fights - a constant - students out of dress code - the rule not the exception. I never felt safe. It was a ""do as you please type of place"". The sports' program is probably the worst in the county. The teachers - all the good ones are gone. Save your money - go somewhere else."

If it weren't for Marist, I wouldn't be the person I am today. They have driven me into the right path, academically and spiritually. I am truly grateful for everything that Marist has done for me.
