Kooser Elementary School Ratings & Reviews

Unfair, immature and a lot of withholding recesses from students for very small things that are not done the way the teachers or principal want. Students get sent to the principle all the time for petty things. Front desk individual has an attitude and makes rude smark comments. Some of the teachers try to cover things up and are dishonest. Principal singles individuals and children out. Inconsistent behavior for adults and a lot of scare tactics involving county attorney. Privacy issues. They do not seem like genuine people at all and have not treated my special needs child fairly at all. I cannot speak for everyone as everyones experience may be different but I would never recommend this school to anyone. Someone has to tell the truth. Something is not normal about this place.

Our daughter has been very lucky to have the teachers and administrators here. They have really pushed her learning while providing a comfortable environment. The teachers and staff have gone out of their way to teach responsibility and compassion. The principal is one of the best in the state at creating an environment of support, acceptance, teamwork, and caring about others.

The teachers at this school are great. It's the principal and other "support" staff that I am not at all happy with. Since moving to Lincoln, getting both of my children adequate after school care has been an issue. Kooser has the YMCA for after school care yet the waiting list is impossible to get past. The district does not provide transportation and traffic is horrible before and after school. The school advised me during a collaborative plan meeting they would do all they could to help since my family is in lincoln alone. Nope. They did nothing and are very insensitive to the diversity of families who go to the school. Instead it's all threats. Either pick up and drop off on time, or we have to report you to the district attorney. No other suggestions or accommodations. The social worker and principal talk to you as of you're a child or on state assistance since I'm black. Lincoln schools coming from Omaha has been a major set back. Again, the teachers are great and that's the ONLY thing that has kept me here, especially at Kooser. New principal and support staff and real programs are definitely needed in that growing community

I find that this school, very much like other schools in the district have the same issues i have encountered during the past two years i was employed as a substitute teacher. I have not had really good dealings with this school. The principal and office staff did not make a good impression on me. They came off as very snobbish and unfriendly. I am from a smaller town where everybody is kind towards different types of people and willing to lend a helping hand. I am finding that teachers, principles, and other staff are taking their positions to their heads where they think they are so much better than what they are really worth. They feel they have that power to put down a substitute teacher who doesn't have ties with the area, or a parent, or even a young, idealistic student teacher. It is sad that it takes a few people to tarnish one's dream. My hat goes off to the one parent who had experienced troubles with this school in this review thread. I am glad i am not the only one who shares this sentiment for this school. My 6 bad experiences at these schools have made me label all of the Lincoln Public Schools as "not user friendly" "judgmental" and "power hungry"

My son started kindergaten this year and loves it. When I pick him up after school at the YMCA after school program he almost always stays an extra ten minutes or so to play some more, when we finally make it to the car and I ask him about his day, he always says he had a good or great day. The only thing I don't like is for kindergaten they have computer day, nothing to do with the school, it's LPS. It would be better if he was learning a different languages or learning the states, but that's my opinion.
