This is not a good school for minoritys. They will eventually try to break your child's spirit. The teachers don't communicate properly with students or parents, and when you ask questions the teachers get ghost, they stop returning phone calls,etc....They let brown kids get bullied,& it's always the brown child's fault..& the school always finds a way to twist it in their favor..

I'll put it this way, I filed a notice of intent to homeschool my son with Autism today, less than a month into this school year. The atmosphere is depressing, my son was in a classroom all day with no windows, more like a closet. The principal is rude and in my opinion would be better suited to work at a correctional facility, though I doubt his fragile ego complex would allow him in such a harsh environment, may be why he chose a 5/6th grade school to work. They do not want parents in the school, not even to walk your disabled child to the classroom, even though they do not have any assistants to facilitate this for safety reasons at the drop off, also have no consideration or understanding of disabled students, nor do they make an effort. I will be looking at violations of the disabilities act by this school, obviously they have had many disagreements with other families of disabled children. It is past time for the board of education to sit up and take notice.

Prevalent racism from students and staff. If your child is not white, this isn't the school for him/her.

NWR is a wonderful school. The school does an excellent job moving kids from elementary to middle school years. The school draws kids from 3 feeder schools and builds them into a community of learners. In this difficult economic time, the teachers are always there, ready to provide a great experience. My daughter had 2 excellent years. There will be a few parents who feel like they are being asked to let their child take personal responsibility for their learning (to grow up) at this stage. That makes parents a little wary if they came from a small feeder school, but in a short period of time, they will be amazed by what these teachers can help a child really accomplish.

Both my children attended North Windy Ridge. One is Aspergers Autistic and the other is a honors student in the Duke TIP program. I can truly say that there are some very good teachers there & there are some really bad ones. While the approach to immersing kids slowly into middle school is a really good idea - this school does not do a good job of it. The unfortunate thing is the middle school is worse. But do not give up hope - the high school is really great. It is too bad that in Weaverville your children must endure 4 bad years to get to 4 good ones.
