Morrisville Elementary Ratings & Reviews

We've had two children at MES, the youngest now a fifth grader. We've had overall excellent teachers (the weakest one has since retired). My children had excellent support by the fantastic special ed team as well as the AIG gifted team, both of whom closely partnered with teachers. Speech therapists have been a constant rotation but current one is great. Specials teachers have been great, too. Compassionate, caring staff who have been invested in my kids success--- all 4s and 5s on our EOGs. Met with full support when we had mild bullying problem which was nipped in the bud. Involved parents, great community.

I have 2 children at MES. My oldest is advanced and up until 3rd grade has had an average experience. Her teacher this year is the most uncaring teacher we've ever had. My daughter needs redirection often and rather than being a champion of her success and complimenting her, she is constantly berated in front of classmates. She is no longer a behavior 'issue' in class because she has become very withdrawn and doesn't want to participate. Conversations with administration has lead no where saying they won't offer her help until she is "failing" in some aspect - which means my advanced/gifted student has to completely fail a subject and HATE school before anything will be done. This school can not work with students that don't fit their perfect mold so if you have a child that is quirky in any way - don't bother with MES. Just walk the halls and you won't see a school with any sort of individuality - they're militant in most of what they do and want everyone to conform. My youngest works well here but if my oldest gets into one of the magnet schools this coming year, she will be leaving in short order.

We moved from out of state and are unimpressed with faculty and administration. Students are not challenged here, and instead are scooted along to hit minimum requirements. Staff responds to parents at a glacial pace and only then when prodded multiple times. They promised to follow up with the prior school to get records, because they won't accept copies from parents, and never did. Parent-teacher conferences have yielded nothing of value, just the teacher praising common core and avoiding having to discuss how to actually improve student performance.

I've had 3 kids at MES with my last graduating this year. The good: great parent involvement, generally great kids, teachers love the kids and some are amazing instructors, good atomosphere, school pride. The bad: this may be true for all schools thanks to No Child Left Behind, but the focus is on getting more kids to pass EOGs, not on helping every child learn. Principal seems very status quo and not interested in advancing individual students; you will get good lip service but few changes. Kids love the school and we've made some good friends there but would have loved to see more academic challenge.

Excellent teachers, great principal, special events that make the kids feel like they are part of something awesome.
