WeΓÇÖve been members of the St. Mark community for 5 years now and couldnΓÇÖt be happier. The attention to each child and their needs is amazing. Christian values are taught each day and prayer is said several times during the school day. We didnΓÇÖt know any families or children when our oldest started in Kindergarten and we know have a great group of friends, for our kids and for us as parents. The sense of community is very strong and all are willing to help each other. Academically our kids are challenged each and every day. Teachers take the time to know each child and their abilities. We love St. Mark!

There seems to be a decline in good reviews over the years for a reason. From what I witness, the staff is unfriendly, the teachers are overwhelmed with class size and there is no sense of family or community unless you are a die hard PTO mom that spends your entire life on the property. We are a new St. Mark family and we have tried to make an effort to meet other parents by participating in all the activities and volunteering in centers and field trips but the families of St. Mark are not warm and friendly and are extremely exclusive and snobby. This unfriendly environment is rooted in the fabric of the school; you can hear teachers yelling at children as you walk down the hallways especially in the kindergarten classes. I don't want my young children to dislike school because they have teachers that can't manage their class and resort to yelling to obtain control. It is so disheartening for me to witness this approach to teaching and when you escalate to leadership, nothing gets resolved. We wanted to have children in a Catholic environment but there is no Christian behavior /kindness to others displayed here. Church is not geared for younger children and does not foster family participation and engagement. After attending a Catholic school for 12 years, this school does not live up to the positive personal experiences I had growing up at a Catholic school and has left me really questioning if we want to stay at the school and continue to be members of this church.

For the money, it was not worth the switch from Huntersville Elementary/Bailey where we would have been assigned by the government school system. We're not going to switch, but from what we know after a few years, we would have stayed in the government schools and spent half of what we'd have saved in tuition on private tutors and private sports clubs. A complacency seems to have set in and the product continues to degrade each year. Teachers and those coaching sports seem disgruntled and not excited to do the work and from my count, 4 young teachers left for better jobs this year resulting in new teachers not up to the task and not guided by the principal. Seems to me, teachers leave principals just like workers don't so much quit a job as they quit their boss. Nice enough lady, and cares about kids, but the results suggest a change in the leadership methods or a change in the leader is what this school needs.

St. Mark's is pretty close to being a perfect school. It is big enough to have many clubs and sports programs but small enough to have a family feel. There is an abundance of volunteer opportunities with a strong PTA. But if you are a working parent, the school works with you: with many times for teacher conferences to how they have volunteer opportunities. The teachers are always available, they have weekly traditional classes like PE, art, music, computer, recess (kindergarten has 2 per day). We feel like there is not a huge CMS bureaucracy taking things away to try to shove work sheets down the kids throat. I don't understand the previous parent's post of how they take care of discipline issues. From the teachers to the principal, they treat each student individually and work with each one separately. They would never try to push a child out, maybe it was the parent that had behavior issues? We love St. Mark's and can't imagine being anywhere else.

We left this school after receiving a spot in a charter. This school is NOT accommodating to every child. My kid is a sweet kid, however has a tough time sitting still after a while and gets a bit restless, like many kids. After all, it's ridiculous to expect that 6 year olds can sit still for long periods of time. I feel like the teachers had nothing but negative things to say to him and it really hurt his confidence. He is way above grade level academically, so he is very very smart. I wish this school would cater to different children and be a bit more encouraging and positive role models. It's not just about how long you can sit still, how long you can sit down and do work, how well you do on testing...it's letting kids be kids, too!!! The school leadership called us so many times to discuss our child's behavior that WE got fed up and left. They were NOT accommodating and don't care about accommodating special strategies. They have a huge wait list and all they need is push the parents out so they can get the next easy kid in. If your kid has a similar behavior I would highly suggest looking elsewhere. What is ironic is that they pray for your child's wellness but they don't treat everyone equally as Christ always preached. Where is the Catholicism when they "bully" the parents until they are fed up? Sorry, but I do pray that the leadership of this school do start accepting each kid equally rather than singling the challenging ones out. We surely miss the school environment as this is not as nearly as great as the charter we are now, but it is sad that the leadership is not open minded. We pray for you!
