As a parent of two students who have gone through Hickory High School, I am saddened to say that I am very disappointed with the education that my second child has received. It's as if some of the teachers there do not care whether the students understand the material or not. The state needs to review the data and analyze the effectiveness of teachers who have a high percentage of students failing in their classrooms. It's one thing to know the material that you are supposed to teach and an entirely different thing to be able to teach it to fluency/mastery.

The administration does not care about its students unless they are basketball or football players or unless the have money. I was bullied non stop and they would listen and when they finally did and expelled the kid but the moment they found out I was gonna transfer they quickly decided to let him back. They honestly d not care and I would not recommend this school to anyone

2012-2013 was a new year for Hickory High! The new administrative team, faculty and staff restructured and reorganized the entire school! The 2013-14-school environment is structured to support a rigorous academic program, state champion athletic program and the some of the counties finest art initiatives. Hickory High students are given the support they need to be successful with their studies, sports and arts. This is a model high school!

Excellent teachers will only be found in the honors classes - the new principal seems to only be after his "personal" agenda. The students never see him at school. Leadership seems to magnify the students with minor homework/dress issues and overlook drugs and bullies. Academic programs and clubs are for those involved with PTA and if you dont have the cash or time forget PTA. There is a real gap between the haves and have not - in every aspect of leadership, counselors, students & opportunities. This school is best for those with "honors" or those who have plenty of "money."

Because I lived out of district, attending Hickory High was a choice that my parents and I made. We do not regret making this decision. I did exceptionally well in high school. Hickory High has many school clubs and wonderful academic programs for students to be involved in. The teachers, counselors, and other staff were magnificant. Dr. Mattox is an excellent leader and showed her compassion to everyone.
