Vance County Early College High School Ratings & Reviews
My understanding is that this school provides the opportunity for a child to receive their associate's degree, not just automatically receive one. What has your child's academic record been like so far? Has your daughter done all she can to be successful? I will admit that my child will not graduate with an associate's degree, but he did not do all he could to be successful. Of course I am disappointed, but at the end of the day, it is his responsibility to do the work, not the schools and not the teachers. I was made aware of this situation through his report cards received every six weeks and his college transcripts sent home every semester- even had to sign off on his VGCC registration forms, otherwise he would not have been able to take classes, so surely you should have known what was going on with your daughter? My understanding is that parent signatures on registration forms are mandatory, otherwise the college will not enroll the child. I suspect there is more to this story.
The program is designed for students to receive their High School Diploma and Associates's Degree in 5 years, in a system where Vance County School is paying the bill. This is untrue. THE MAJORITY OF PARENTS have paid for last minute college classes, in order for their child to finish the program. Or, they are finishing the program with just a high school diploma, not their Associates Degree. For us, we have been instructed that our daughter needs 14 college classes to finish the program. All of this, plus 3 high school classes need to be taken in her Super Senior year. That's impossible. So, we are paying the bill of $1000 to pay for 5 college classes to be taken during the summer, and a woping 12 classes will be taken next year during her regular Super Senior year. Someone dropped the ball. Was it us? Was it the school? I'm not the only parent with these feelings, so I'm not leaning the ball in our hands, just yet. Can't wait to see how the Super Senior year goes. So much work! Basically, none of these college classes transfer to her Actual Major. Yikes. In my opinion ... A year wasted ..... and $1000 (maybe more) down the drain.
