"I've heard many negative things about this school in the past but I have been very impressed since my daughter has been there! We transferred from one of the ""good"" schools and she now has fantastic teachers who are willing to go the extra mile. I have gotten to know the assistant principals and principal and they are all friendly and ready to bend over backwards for you! We are very lucky to be jaguars!!"

"This school has to get the students under control. Every since year, most of the teachers change to teach another school. There is rarely teachers that stay. The teachers are really nice, kind and fair. But, the students say inappropriate languages/ hurtful things to the teachers. I blame the parents, who thinks ""Oh my child is a angel, she/ he would never do that"" and those that say they will control their child and lie. The teacher sometimes make phone calls that the whole entire class can hear. And there are good students that try their best to get good grades and stay out of trouble and so am I. You can only have a good school year here, if you do your work and chose the right friends."

I give Hairston four stars because my child is doing great at the school. She has awesome teachers and is getting a great education. However, they are not getting five stars because they lack control of the children, which is not their fault. The children at this school are very disrespectful and I agree that their parents are part of the blame. I do agree that most of the parents are young and lack values most of the parents are around my age range (I am 30) and their priorities are just not there, which I could tell when I did open house with my daughter her first year there. I do believe they are trying their best to control the horrible children but they can only do so much without the support of the parents. If the parents do not care the children will not care. My daughter pretty much stays to herself and has not really had a problem with other students but she has told me horrible stories. This is a great school academically but the environment is horrible.

I was excited when my students were accepted into the IB program at Hairston Middle. I attended the parent planning sessions in the summer of 2012 and looked forward to a great year. Since the beginning of the year, I daily hear of fights, disrespect to teachers in the classroom and my children come home with constant stories everyday of things that are happening in this school. I adore the staff here but these children that attend this school lack discipline. I think Hairston needs a no tolerance policy because its hard for the kids who really do want to learn, to thrive in this type of environment. I can not wait until the end of this year. I am taking my kids out of this school and fast. I do not recommend this school to my worse enemy. Do not apply here. My son comes home scared and has been bullied relentlessly. I volunteered here once and could not believe the language I heard from the students here and in front of the teachers. Its sad because I really do believe that the staff have the best interest of the student in mind but they have a hard job dealing with these children daily. I could not teach here so please rethink this choice if you plan to apply here.
