What if your most trusted, sound advisors and teachers got together to create the best in education and child development and then constantly strove to not just maintain what they had but to make it, themselves and our families even better? That's what it feels like to be involved at Canterbury School in Greensboro, North Carolina.Grace, dignity, respect, celebration, delight, cherish, honesty, exploration, friends, love -- these words come to mind when we say Canterbury. Our two children (and our family unit) are currently receiving a PHENOMENAL education at Canterbury. We are still new to the school yet feel very welcomed by staff and fellow Canterbury families. Staff, board members and fellow parents are very professional and very healthy, balanced, centered humans beings - one the tremendous differences between Canterbury and every other school we have encountered personally or through friends and family across the nation. Couldn't disagree more with the negative comments put forth by the last two reviewers. Yes, there has been a change in the head of school which has also timed at the same point for a few staff when it was time in their careers to take a step forward or move closer to family or retire. The incoming head of school has a phenomenal reputation (we know families in Richmond who are sad to lose him) from a top nationally recognized school and word on the street is great about other new hires. Teachers and staff are positive, trusted and honest partners in the growth and development of our children. The Canterbury folks take the high road while getting on a child's level and do so with kindness, intellect, humor and respect.

I'd be very careful about sending your child to Canterbury. There is a huge staff turnover which typically signals unhappy teachers and poor administration. Teachers seem afraid of parents and therefore don't want to push academic standards. Administrators seem driven by enrollment numbers, rather than quality of education for students.

To give this school any star is only because of the teachers and staff. They're lovely! When it comes to community, this school is odd, highly self conscious and socially inept. I couldn't wait for the school year to end to take my children out!

This is an excellent place to send your child when you're a parent who is interested in learning beyond test scores. My daughter's classes have all been very hands on and interactive, they go far beyond sitting at a desk doing a worksheet. I appreciate that they still see children as children, they have two recess times per day, younger grades still have center time with play (dress up, kitchen, etc), , nap time, etc. My child has flourished here and while I would love a free public alternative, I have found nothing that comes close.
