Brookside Elementary School Ratings & Reviews

I have two children at this school. Before attending Brookside my oldest went to a private school. I can say, without hesitation, that I feel the academics at Brookside are more rigorous than the private school. Both children are experiencing such academic growth. I am so happy to see them come home from school happy. The principal is friendly, concerned and dedicated. The teachers my children have had are amazing; kind and willing to go the extra mile! The only negative I can think of is a bit of bullying, but I am pretty sure you will find that anywhere. It is the prompt response by faculty and staff that I appreciate. Bullying has happened, but it was made clear that is not acceptable. Being a teacher myself, I can be very critical. Brookside is turning out to be a terrific choice for my children.

I have a 3rd grader at Brookside Elementary. It is a fablous school, with great teachers who work very hard with the kids. This is my daughters first year in public school and we found out that the private school she went to was behind! My daughter had to play catch up in the begininng but she did it with all the extra support and caring from her teacher!

Bottom line Brookside is a wonderful school! If it wasn't I would not work there and I certainly wouldn't send my children to school there! Yes NCLB does put strict guidelines on what we can teach and even how we can teach it, but unless you were in your child's classroom every minute of every day you do not have a true picture of what went on there. Brookside teachers begin to build a bond with their students from the moment they meet. That bond follows until they leave us to head on to middle school and many of them return and say thank you for making such a difference in their lives. If you want to complain about NCLB talk to the legislators in Raleigh, and don't forget to ask for a raise for me! Lord knows that I didn't go into this career for the money!

I am a former teacher at Brookside. The staff there is very caring and loving! They are truely interested in each child's education and well being! You won't find a more deticated principal anywhere! Plus they have the best specialist team (art, music, pe, media, computers, and guidance) in the county!

There are teaching legends and there are teaching duds here at Brookside. I was happy with the school at first, but NCLB keeps the teachers teaching to a lousy test and they don't get to know the kids! It's systematic with no room for creativity and whether it's the school's fault or the No Child program's fault, I still hate it. The pros are you'll never find a more attentive principal and it's actually a pretty decent school when you get the stellar teachers. The cons are the teachers who are so fed up with NCLB they're just there for the paycheck, and you'll find a few of those here. Overall, I give it an average. Three years ago it would have been an excellent, but maybe it will improve again.
