"Absolutely horrible. When requesting different classes because I need the credits, I was emailed by an administrator who flat out told me she wouldn't help me. This same administrator simply told me to not talk about it when a student two grades above me got violent after bullying me all year and waited for said student to graduate instead of doing anything about it. Almost all of the teachers are incapable of teaching accurate information and are more than willing to jump on students that try to help their peers understand the curriculum. Other teachers get way too personal, even going so far as to ask you for relationship advice and make you help them get dressed. If you ever try to voice your opinion, no matter how respectfully you do it or how much it would help you, your teacher, your classmates, or even your school as a whole, your grades will be docked and they will do their very best to have you punished. I've had a teacher put her hands on me, blame my upbringing (which she knew nothing about) for how I disrespected her (she interrupted my conversation and got in my face when I didn't respond), tell me that speaking to me is ""like slamming [her] head against a brick wall"", and any time I try to ask her a question she either completely ignores me or yells over me. Every attempt to remedy this has been met with ""I'll have a talk with her"". I have no idea if that talk has happened or not but nothing has changed. It doesn't matter if you are a good student, if you do your work, if you are respectful, if you follow the rules, no matter what you do, you and your physical and mental health will suffer at SCS."

This is the best school in Durham! The principal, Ms Price is fully engaged with the students, greeting them by name at the front door as they begin their day. Ms Hundredmark is exceptional as a vice principal as an active force that has the children s best interests at heart. The teachers my son has had have made me believe that they are primarily here because they care about learning. The support staff is equally brilliant, Mr. Boston or Jennifer or Marion are the best! I truly can t recommend this school enough, by the way my son is an EC student with an IEP.

"so first of all this school is the same as any public school. There are no sports and the classes that are on the brochure are not at the school. We get macbooks that we could use everyday but i also read a comment made by a teacher stating that students ""love"" coming their school and want their breaks to ""end"". yeahhh... no. One thing i can say is that they have awesome field trips that go out of country but they cost a lot of money and only about 2-5 students go. I also dont understand how its ""one of the best schools"" when it just opened last year."

"Grade ""A"" staff. The school most recently emplemented a tier program (concerning lunch privileges) that motivate the kids to rise to the level that's expected of them. I commend the staff for emplementing the program (out of the box thinking) because I see how it has motivated my child academically. I think the program will teach the kids not to take things for granted even down to the simplest things like eating lunch outside. There is a life lesson as well as the school privilege lesson to be learned. The students eyes will be opened up tremendously ""Not to take the things we have & privileges for granted"" they can be taken away if they don't do their part. Go!!! SCS!!! Continue to pull every ounce of potential out of our kids!!!"

The School for Creative Studies opened in July of 2013 on the campus of what was once Chewning Middle School. Any post that stems past 7/2013, is not reflective of SCS. I can tell you that this school is doing a lot of things right. For starters, the kids LOVE coming to school. They talk about how much they love school and want their breaks to end so they can get back. The parents feel the same sentiment. At SCS, we are breaking out of the model of traditional schooling and putting a new spin on the way schools define and deliver education. I am proud to be a part of this fantastic community!
