Our child is doing terribly here. We won't be staying at this school in the fall. I wish we could pull our child out now, but it's not possible. Zero communication between teacher and parent and when you do receive an answer it is generic and does not address the actual issue. The school seems disinterested in student performance as long as the fundraising results are strong. This was a wasted year.

This school is very trash. For high school, there are teachers leaving every year and that makes it hard for students to get used to the teacher and for the teacher to get used to the student. When it comes to athletics, it is clear that the school does not care about the sports teams considering the school field is like a graveyard filled with bumps and patches of grass scattered around it.

Our child who attended CIS is not an ideal student by traditional standards, however, he is an exceptionally bright kid who learns material and retains it in order to test very well; but, he also has low self-motivation and resists hours of homework outside of school hours. This usually means that his grades do not accurately reflect his knowledge or abilities because despite high test scores, missing homework can hit the grade average hard. I felt that most of my student’s teachers at CIS were flexible enough to reward the work that my child did complete, as long as the overall goals were met & demonstrated during class via testing or class participation, rather than insisting on excessive homework. This fostered an atmosphere of encouragement rather than the over-emphasis on absolute control and order that plagues most mainstream public schools, wherein the at-risk students are likely to only be further and further alienated. At CIS, I saw a great improvement in my son’s attitude. As a side note, a very important one—a parent in another review mentioned an incident at the school regarding a student at school with a knife. She implied disappointment in how the student was disciplined as well as how the school handled the situation...without first-hand knowledge of the incident. I DO have firsthand knowledge of the situation and want to clarify first and foremost that this was NOT at all any kind of act of violence or threat in any way to the school or any other student. What happened was that the student involved had been on a camping trip with his father, had forgotten and left in his zippered shorts pocket a very small Swiss Army tool that also had a small-bladed knife on it. The student was in class, fiddling through his pockets when he discovered the pocket knife. Another student saw it and the teacher was immediately alerted—the kid who had the pocket knife apologized profusely for having accidentally left it in his pocket and immediately gave it to the teacher. It was an unfortunate but simple mistake. Again, at no time was there any malicious intent or any threat to anyone. The student was well-known as a good natured and well-behaved kid, and there was no reason to suspect any threat. It is extremely egregious for the previous reviewer to misrepresent this incident to wrongly imply that the school’s response to the incident was insufficient.

We have been at CIS for 7 years (started in kindergarten). This school has really met the needs of my family. Great teachers, amazing campus with outdoor learning areas and trails, exercise is a daily expectation and administration is very accessible when you need them.
