Excellent. Full disclosure: I have been so pleased with my daughter's experience that I joined the Board. My daughter is an 8th grader in her second year at JCS, and has both auditory processing and attention difficulties. She loved her public elementary school and teachers, but was struggling academically and becoming socially marginalized. The transformation was immediate and marked from her first weeks at JCS. The small class size and being able to spend all day with teachers who have special ed training, and the fact that being "different" is the social norm among the students, have made all the difference. She skipped her way into school when I dropped her off. She made the A/B honor roll every quarter. Her teachers improvised personal accommodations for her as soon as they saw the need -- math formula flash cards taped to her desk until they were securely embedded in long-term memory, etc. Our interim head of school is a retired former head of the school whose love for the school and the children has brought a steady hand to the helm while the Board conducted a search for a new head of school. Our next head of school starts this summer with a background in special ed and school administration, and is already engaging with faculty and staff, families, and the broader community, sharing her passion and energy for our school's mission. I am excited to have found a place for my daughter where she can thrive.

This school has changed my daughters LIFE. Her other school could not meet the needs of her learning differences and it had really taken its toll. We could not even see a future for her. Then one of my patients told me about The John Crosland School and our lives changed forever. This is now her 5th year at the school, and she is earning all A's and B's. Plus, she has learned about being an advocate for herself and is actually talking about COLLEGE!! It makes me want to cry tears of joy just thinking about this! If your child is struggling at school and you are struggling with their teachers-STOP. Visit the John Crosland School and finally see what a real school for LD is!! Also, it was recently ranked in the Top 10 schools IN THE COUNTRY for LD!!!!

The John Crosland school does not provide what is advertised on the website or videos about the school ( most of the teachers seen in the videos have left the school). An actual curriculum does not exist. The school can not provide statistics like what % of students perform at grade level after 1+ years post attendance. Students are not being prepared or efficiently taught. As a result, last year the school experienced a mass exodus of several dozen families. There is school wide lack of Integrity from the Board to teachers (not all teachers). Extremely poor communication between teachers and parents (teachers are not allowed to communicate with parents without approval from head of school). The Lower head of School is not qualified and does not hold a Masters Degree; and will "yes" you to death but actually does nothing. Inconsistency is paramount and very evident at this school. Administration retaliates against families that question their system. Many families are concerned that their child will not be prepared for upper grades and college. You will have to micro-manage teachers and teach your child at home to compensate for the schools ineffective teaching strategies.Several children have report teachers providing answers during MAP testing. There is an extreme lack of integrity school wide making Crosland a toxic environment for parents and students. Our family will not re-enroll for the upcoming school year.

The current Head of School is temporary and is not fully invested. There is a glaring lack of leadership that has existed for several years. This has become a school for non-college bound students who need to develop life skills, not the "innovative" college prep for students who have learning differences as advertised. Administration becomes upset when parents realize this and expect improvements. Do not dare inquire about curriculum, there is none. Admin blames the families and labels them as "toxic". Not at all what we expected! We will not be re-enrolling.

My family has had a great experience in our first year at the John Crosland School and we are looking forward to next year! Our first grader is motivated to learn and he no longer "hates" math. The school has welcomed him and his differences with open arms, and while the teachers are understanding of his learning differences, they do not let that define him or settle for less from him because of it. My favorite part of the lower-school curriculum is multi- sensory learning in language and particularly math. My son has particularly responded to this approach and is more willing to dive into the more traditional parts of the curriculum because of it. The lower school teachers and administrators work as a team to foster the growth of the children academically and socially.
