Selwyn Elementary Ratings & Reviews

Selwyn has a very loving and caring feel, but it bleeds mediocrity. I would rate it as a solid C school. We came from a public district out of state and have experience in a real A school. Of course public school resources are limited, but you don't need a ton of funding to create a culture of excellence. However, everything is done to meet a minimum standard. Excellence is neither rewarded or encouraged. The test scores overall here are high, but there isn't much growth.-Students with differentiated needs (both struggling and advanced) are left falling behind their peers. The talent program and department are ineffective. There is little focus on differentiation in the classroom.-There is almost no technology education. When they do technology, it is centered around playing games to prepare for testing. Other schools are teaching coding and logic.-Mediocre culture is evident in events and performances. -Administration and teacher hands are tied by district curriculum and requirements. The school has an outstanding PTA and a lot of parent involvement. This is wonderful. I struggle to understand why the culture is not better with all that they do have from the parents.

Gran will start second grade this year, so far, great experience. I would love to see more diversity... on a scale of 1 to 10 .... 10

We relocated from Minneapolis last year when my son was in 3rd grade. This school is amazing and this is our 3rd elementary school for our son. The teachers are top notch, there is enough rigor mixed with fun and the teachers really make sure that they meet the needs of the whole child. The only down side is that I wish that they had a foreign language!

My daughter is just finishing up Kindergarten at Selwyn and it is a great school. Could use a little diversity, but the PTA is extremely active and involved- there is no shortage of volunteers. Amazing school- my daughter has learned so much and done really well with her testing.

This is a great school!! My daughter is in Kindergarten currently and she loves it!! We are from a diverse background, and yes, there is a lack of diversity in this school - however, my daughter has never really felt out of place and she looks forward to school every day! We did know about the lack of diversity before we moved to this area and were deeply concerned, however we are now glad of the decision we made. There is a lot of parent involvement, the teachers are great and the teachers make every effort to make sure that they tap the potential of each child. The school is great!
