Just walking around school gives you an incredibly negative vibe, this is due to the fact that most of everyone utterly hates the school they are attending. There have been all too many issues regarding secrecy/cover-up (around the administration) and stuff like suicide and self-harm at this school.

Yes, the other posts are true. The administrations is awful and only puts emphasis on their test scores and reputation and do not take account the mental health and happiness of their students. Most of the kids here are miserable, depressed, and stressed. The front office ladies are rude, ineffective, and lazy, not to mention one of them is definitely racist. The teachers are OK, with the exceptions of a couple really good ones. The counselors also suck as most seniors have no idea what they're doing during the college application process, and in turn receive little to no help from their so-called "counselors." School spirit is abysmal, and the rules are beyond strict. Overall this school may make your college experience less challenging, but the four years spent here will tarnish your high school experience. Go to a private school or some other school because this school sucks.

More than anything, I feel sad for my kids. They are bright kids, work very hard, and have earned good grades here, but they do not look forward to going in the mornings. School can be challenging and demanding, but it would be nice to see the administration pause and reward the kids for helping be a part of what makes Providence what it is.

It's the vibe here that is sort of damaging or the culture or whatever you call it. Yes, there are clubs, sports, and events. But the school makes it seem that Providence is a happy and hippie school when really it's quite the opposite. It's stressful and quite gloomy because we have tests almost every single day. I get that every school has to have tests, but we don't have to 3 test in one week. I find myself having like 4 tests in one day. It's helpful if there are more quizzes than tests. The school relies on too much technology to do work. My parents yell at me for using technology all the time. It's not my fault. I didn't have a phone for all 3 years of high school, and some teachers had a problem with that. One teacher, Mrs. Calvar, took it too far email my parents during my junior year to say that I never told her I had a phone. I was supposed to have a phone for Spanish class. The email was so insulting. It's not my fault that I don't have a phone, and because my parents have a financial problem.

I echo the comments of many of the other parents. My two children were successful at Providence, but it had more to do with their effort and parental oversight. I believe that most of the teachers were OK, but I found the administration totally inflexible and unwilling to assist if it meant any additional work for them. I believe that the Principal and her lieutenants and counselors look out more for their best efforts than that of the students. I've told many folks with children younger than ours that they should go the private school route if they can afford it. Considering the reputation of the school, I was very disappointed with PHS.
