Jessie Mae Monroe Elementary Ratings & Reviews

This school is terrible. Last year we were told in February that they wanted to hold my daughter back. This was the first I was hearing about an issue. What I was told was that the teacher had 30 kindergarten students and didn't have time of all of them. As you can imagine I left that school in tears. I decided to put my house on the market and we moved to a different school district. After being at a different school this year I can really see a difference in a school where the staff really cares instead of just collectioning a paycheck. At Jessie Mae the problems seem to come from the administration and effect the staff. I would find an other option rather than sending my kids to this school.

This school is nothing like what you hear on the negative side. I will admit I was apprehensive as well but am so pleased after this past year and am looking forward to those ahead. The staff is kind and friendly. The teachers are committed to giving the best to your child. They are there bright and early and many can be found there after 5. Even the custodians care deeply as the school was rated 'most clean' 2015-16 school year! I would totally recommend to anyone who asked!

We moved to the area in the fall of 2015 and I was a bit nervous with my daughter starting the school because the lack of reviews out there. I've had a good experience with JMME, better than my daughter's last two schools, one of which was a DoDEA school. My daughter started 1st grade here and all the staff I've come in contact with have been wonderful. She has ADHD and trouble with reading and the school assigned her a tutor before I had even spoke to her teacher and counselor about getting her extra help. I was happy that the school is active about giving the extra help to the kids who need it. Her teacher Ms. Milligan was wonderful and my daughter went from hating school to loving it because of her. JMME was very understanding about letting my daughter miss some days without counting it against her when my husband came home to visit from his deployment. We were worried that with not being near a military installation the school wouldn't be so understanding. We're very grateful for the school allowing our daughter to spend the needed quality family time with her father. My only complaint is that the car rider pickup line feels very unorganized and it takes way too long. I think this has might be due to how the kids are released from the classrooms and the lack of teacher assistants. Overall, I can't understand why JMME has gotten such bad ratings from others and I've been pleasantly surprised with this school.

Our family recently moved into Brunswick County School District, and we were warned "Jessie Mae" is not somewhere you want to be. Regardless of the warnings, we forged ahead and enrolled our children. From the onset, we were astonished by the ineptitude in operations (enrolling process, car pool line waiting "don't even get me started on that", inappropriate comments from teachers (especially the art teacher)). The worst of the worst, is when you bring up any issue with the principle; Ms. Helen Otto she is completely dismissive. It is obvious why this school is run so poorly. Ms. Otto is in way over her head, and is simply a figure head at this point. She has no managerial skills along with sub-par interpersonal ability. My suggestion, is to stay away from this school at all costs!!!!!
