This school was created as a haven for white students to avoid integration. That's it's reason to exist, and it does it well.

My children have received an excellent and well-rounded education in a safe environment where the teachers, administrators and staff truly care about their success. Recent additions such as an elementary STEM lab, iPad carts for all grades and Surface Pro 3's for Juniors and seniors have greatly enhanced technology and improved academic rigor. Class sizes average 18 students which is ideal in my opinion for optimal learning. I would highly recommend Starkville Academy to anyone that values an independent school education and is considering it as their school of choice.

Certainly not worth the investment in terms of a higher quality education. The appeal of this school appears to be homogenous middle class environment.

Where do I start? Well, first of all SA lacks the time management skill and tries to cram seven classes into one day. The block system would be a godsend to all students attending. Teachers and coaches alike try to get as much done as possible, but with only fifty minutes per class, only so much can be accomplished. What's seems to be their biggest worry is a student on a cell phone. Administration is constantly walking by classrooms for the soul purpose of trying to catch students on their phones. What's more is the fact that the school is in need of repairs in many places, but instead invests more money into the football stadium and field. The school doesn't even financially support the art classes such as band (the roof inside the band hall has many holes in it) or art 1, 2, or 3. With the tuition they're making parents pay, a little money here and there shouldn't be so hard to use towards the art classes. I am a student there (obviously) and almost all of the other students can prove these problems. Most of my friends are either certainly or determining switching to starkville high as it provides the block system, more class options and so on.

When making decisions about education, do not mistake great Websites and prestige for competence! Starkville Academy offers small classes and many opportunities for students to participate in extra-curricular activities. Don't mistake quantity for quality; many of those opportunities lack element of quality. Students may participate, but their experience is limited by lack of leadership from coaches, teachers, and administrators. There have been many instances of inequitable treatment in sports my daughter experienced. Also, I'm aware of different treatment in the classroom depending on who the child is from a social standpoint.
