My wife and I have put 3 kids through Parkway North. They have all had wonderful experiences and have all gone on to great colleges and careers. One went to a highly selective college and now has a PhD. The second went to an Ivy. The Ivy kid is profoundly deaf and was treated with great respect and support at PNHS, enabling him to achieve to his full potential. Both kids found themselves unusually well prepared for college, academically. The third child decided not to go to college and may become the most successful of the three, in part because of the tremendous school support for his talents and interests. One fantastic part of PNHS' philosophy is their support for planning and preparing for post-high school. In addition to a dedicated college counselor, PNHS started a unique and highly effective, volunteer, college mentoring program which helps students find their "ideal" post-high school program. Their solid college counseling is the envy of many other schools (the volunteer mentoring program is spreading across St Louis), and is strongly supported by PNHS administration. Another excellent part of the PNHS philosophy is their strong support for - and constant interaction with - parents. If you're willing to work with the administration and teachers (as opposed to simply complaining), they will go to fantastic lengths to work with you and accommodate student needs. This philosophy starts with the principal and goes all the way down the chain. Everyone is on the same page.A third, tremendous aspect of the PNHS philosophy is its embrace of diversity. Whether it's racial, special needs or any other aspect of diversity, PNHS both includes and embraces it. Our kids learned a level of tolerance and inclusiveness that outstrips most other West County high schools. We have friends in most of the other West County schools and districts and wouldn't trade our kids' experiences for any other school.

teachers have god complex and forget that parents are adults and not their students. if i would treat my customers as these teachers treating parents i would be fired the same day. the forgot that taxpayers are writing them their paycheck.

I am a freshman in high school at North High, and i love the school so much! I have gotten so close to some of my teachers and i love them with all my heart. The principal is one of the most caring and loving principal ever! You can just tell the staff there loves the job, the kids, and what they are doing. I can honestly say that i am proud to be a viking!

In response to the posting of Jan. 20 and as a supplement to my Jan 9 posting, it is the job of responsible schools to help students, particularly freshmen and sophomores, manage their time and focus on the critical academic areas. Even colleges do this by restricting freshmen student activities (ie, no pledging of frats and sororities first semester)--it's not kindergarten and the truly insightful would realize that. High school should provide a good foundation for the future, not a series of memories for those with a more provincial outlook to ask one another "where did you go the high school". Accomplished people from other areas of the country don't bother with that inquiry. Again, PNHS is a good high school but needs to re-focus on academics and provide more orientation for freshmen and new students. No complaints with the credentials of faculty though a few use a "sink or swim" approach to teaching---again, only a few. Failure or near failure is too often accepted among faculty and students. Time to shake poeple out of their comfort zone and to stop being so parochial.
