We toured (and loved) several independent schools in St. Louis before setting foot in New City. In fact, we almost skipped New City’s Open House event because we were so impressed with the other schools we’d seen. I’m so glad we didn’t. As soon as we walked inside the building (and heard Alexis speak about the school’s four pillars), we knew that this was the school for us. What do I love about New City? So many things! The diversity is incredible: not just racial/ethnic diversity, but many other forms as well, including socioeconomic, family composition, religious, political, etc. This diversity creates a richness of community that makes the school one of the most special institutions I have ever experienced. The top-notch academics. New City feeds into all the best secondary schools in St. Louis, where the alumni excel. Diversity and community aside, we would never have chosen a school without sufficient academic rigor. New City has it. The people of New City--the students, staff, teachers, parents, alumni-- are just so interesting, fun, accepting, kind, and engaged. Finally-- a small thing (but it’s actually not). New City has no drop-off/pick-up lane. Every parent has to walk their child into the school every day. Before we started at the school, I thought of this as a con. Who wants to park and walk inside when it’s raining, snowing, cold, hot, etc.? But in reality, the lack of a carpool lane is a huge strength of the school. It contributes to the wonderful sense of community at New City. Walking through the halls, you run into your child’s teachers and friends, and you get to know other parents and staff. Most mornings, I end up wishing I had more time to linger in the warm, welcoming hallways. This school is truly that special.

Excellent. For all of the reasons already stated New City’s curriculum, academic rigor and overall School environment is second to none. They are teaching my girls how to enjoy learning; to tackle challenges without fear of failing; to lead by example, not by force; and to identify and capitalize on strengths in themselves and others around them.

This is a perfect school...for perfect kids. If your kid is one of these kids who will do well in any school this may be good fit. Otherwise the experience may be terrible. They treated my kid in kindergarten like if he was worthless. He was becoming an angry kid at school. Now is his new school he is doing amazing. The best asset of this school are the families. They discard from the beginning kids with learning disabilities. Diversity means only skin color for them. Very open minded and liberal from outside; extremely retrograde in their methods.

This school is amazing. I would not trade our experience at NCS for anything. The school is intentional in everything it teaches and how the teachers teach. I am an educator and there is no comparison.

We are extremely pleased with New City School. The teachers are very experienced, compassionate and understanding. My child's challenges are met with an encouraging, proactive approach. The staff is top notch and visibly pleased to be a part of NCS! The environment fosters diversity and compassion for others. The curriculum is of excellent quality, it also encourages creativity and develops character. I was speaking with other parents after observing our children interacting; we agree that their relationships with each other and the parents feels like an extension of family. The teacher to student ratio helps teachers get to know each student and support how he or she learns.
