Barnwell Middle School Ratings & Reviews

I am an eighth grade student at Barnwell and I find it surprising that it has such low reviews. It seems that most of the bad reviews left by students are students blaming teachers for their own choices. In the 2 1/2 years I have been here a teacher has never lost a paper and blamed it on the student. Every student I have seen claiming that their teacher lost the assignment didn't actually do the assignment. Also, the teachers here do care about the students and definitely don't promote bullying. I have a few disorders that can make me get on the nerves of some other students, but my teachers have rarely ever not tried to help me calm down. I have also cried in class more than a few times, and my teachers have never not helped me cheer up. Even my strictest teachers would help anyone who needed it. All of the teachers there show a love for the students and greet us with a smile every day. I have seen some students be so rediculous that it made me want to scold them, but the teachers in all of the situations kept their cool. I want to thank all of the teachers and staff at Barnwell for being so awesome and keep it up!

"It begins with a great, diverse mix of kids. Some have achieved academic honors including our Robotics Team that won the local and state competitions and went on to national finals. Some have won honors in state music competitions. We have been recognized by the Anti-Defamation League for our efforts at building a tolerant, inclusive environment. Our ""No Place for Hate"" club is one of the largest and fastest growing organizations. Students and teachers work together at food pantries. Many teachers put in tons of extra time for clubs, tutoring, and other student centered events. Teachers have also donated time, money, and material to support some of our needy families in our area. This will be my third year as a teacher at Barnwell, and I am both proud and humbled to be part of this great learning community."

Bullying is encouraged at this school. The principal is useless. Absolutely does nothing to keep students in line. I have talked to many parents and they say there kids have received detentions for defending themselves against bullies attacking them.

I went there as a kid in the mid 90's, so I am in my 30's now. I remember this place to be overcrowded. I had several classes in makeshift trailer units that were set up behind the school. I remember it to be a place where the staff all but encouraged bullying and considered it a right of passage for pubescent young teenagers. In retrospect I realize that a lot of the kids who went there came from very low class backgrounds, and they frequently acted as such. I know people who work at the school district that report 40% of the kids are on government sponsored lunches in the area. Thankfully my parents had enough sense to pull me out of Francis Howell for high school. Although I am considered gifted I needed a solid year of tutoring in math when I arrived in St. Charles school district to be considered in alignment with my peers. The only good thing I can say about the school is that the experience is over. I wound up making something of my life, but no thanks to Francis Howell.

I am a student at Barnwell Middle School. I am very unhappy with the schooling. I'm in eighth grade and the science teachers are absolutely horrible. The science teacher I have gets very confused with what shes teaching. I am here to learn, not to deal with your problems. The other science teacher is terrible. He tells students they are dumb, and will go no where. He also cusses in class and spends most of classtime lecturing students. A lot of bullying goes on, and when you tell the principals or counselors, they do absolutely nothing. The Normandy school situation has made this school even worse. So many distractions in class, drugs being brought to school, and fights. Save your student and don't make them go to this horrible school.
