St. Croix Montessori School Ratings & Reviews

Our son is thriving at St. Croix Montessori. He started the toddler program last Spring, did Summer Camp, which was full of enriching experiences, and has now started the new school year. I love the exposure the children get with the outdoors... nature hikes, composting, interaction with animals gain an early appreciation for the great outdoors. We feel our son gets opportunities bringing out his full potential every day he goes to school. Would highly recommend. St. Croix Montessori exudes an excellent sense of community and cooperation through top notch leadership and teachers.

I chose this school for my son because I was assured that it was an excellent alternative to mainstream kindergarten. Sadly, we found this not to be true in the slightest. Perhaps the school is good for kids who are raised in the Montessori system from birth, but they do not have an adequate framework to integrate a new child into the Montessori style. My son was often frustrated in the weeks he was there and instead of occasionally adding a resource to the classroom to help him, the school instead removed him from class and he spent a lot of time doing his ‘work’ while sitting with the receptionist at her desk. After these episodes he could never tell me why he was removed, which means he had not understanding why he was removed from his peers. The school is loosely affiliated with district 834 and the district specialist I spoke to about our experience was appalled that a kindergartener was being regularly removed from class as a disciplinary approach. To be clear, my son does not have any underlying behavior issues, and is currently at a mainstream public kindergarten and is excelling. This is a private school, and not an inexpensive one, and this school chooses to market itself as an alternative to public school, but in my experience, it in an extraordinarily poor alternative. If you decide to visit St Croix Montessori, do NOT decide to enroll your child based on what the director chooses to tell you. Ask specific, pointed questions about discipline, services to acclimate kids to the Montessori classroom, and how teachers adapt their teaching to the varying needs of the kids in their class. I suspect you’ll only get half answers, because that’s all they’ve got.

I love the teachers, the small school environment, and the Montessori philosophy. My oldest child has attended the school for 8 years now and is still excited to get up and go to class every morning. I can't say enough about how thankful I am to this school for providing such a supportive, enriching, and engaging learning environment for my children.

Our family has been a member of the St. Croix Montesorri School community for several years now and we absolutely love it. The SCMS staff is excellent and the Montesorri way of teaching just makes so much sense. My children are excited to go to school and learn. Not only do they learn what 'traditional' schools teach but they also learn how to work together, treating each other with respect, problem solving skills, how to take care of animals, and many other important life skills.

Both of my children are currently attending SCM. They have been in the school for almost 5 years, and we love it. The teachers are top notch, thoughtful, understanding, caring, and driven to provide the best education to their students. The head-of-school and staff all work toward the same goals and have fun doing it. The school has a positive attitude all around. My children are learning leadership, respect, and time management in addition to their reading/writing/math/science/etc. Oh, and there are donkeys, alpacas, chickens, a rabbit, a degu, a snake, and fish. The children care for them all and get to stay in touch with nature every day.
