Heartwood Renaissance Academy Ratings & Reviews
I know the teachers in this program well -- and I am always amazed at the students that come out of here. My next door neighbor's foster child couldn't read when he started there, yet a year later he was reading at his high school level. Teenagers that started out being unresponsive and unhappy, graduate with changed attitudes and the willingness to work hard, create careers and move ahead with their lives. It's more than just reading and writing -- it's a whole lifestyle program that shows these kids what it means to be a productive adult when they graduate. When students do NOT want to do their part (when they want to be spoonfed and allowed to do their own thing) the structure and reinforcement are not always appreciated by the kids at the time, yet in the long-run, I would be more than happy to send my children there.
When my son came to Heartwood he was failing all subjects in public school. The small class size, and caring teachers turned him around. 4 years later he graduated. He is now a successful Makeup Artist, and going to school part time for special effects makeup. I don't think he would have made it through High School if it were not for Heartwood Renaissance Academy
"As a former student and graduate, I would definitely recommend considering Heartwood as an option for your high school aged child. While a student, a was what some would call a ""problem child"". I was always in trouble with teachers at schools that I have attended prior to Heartwood. The staff at Heartwood understood that I, as well as the other students in the school, were ""different"". Not in a bad way, but just not like everybody else. Even after graduation, the staff continues to stay in touch with several former students (even those who went on to other schools), and they care about the well-being of all of the students (both current and past). The class sizes are small, so there is a lot of one-on-one time with the students, which is extremely beneficial when the student is having difficulty understanding the assignments. If it weren't for Heartwood, I would probably have never graduated high school."
Check into this school and teachers before you decide to enroll. Teachers are all volunteer and show up when they feel like it. Teacher attitudes and student discipline measures are horrible.
Heartwood is a great place where students are treated as budding individuals working at their own pace to achieve academic success. Each student beats to their own drum and the staff and teachers create a rhythm of success that turns the students dreams into realities. The weekly communication to the parents from each teacher really gives the parents a birdseye view of their children's successes and shortcomings. All courses taken by a student are developed for success. All daily work must be accomplished at a 70% or more level of understanding. We also offer 140 Online courses and HIgh School Credit Recovery.
