Andrews Elementary School Ratings & Reviews

I transferred my students to Andrews from another school in the district because I had heard such great things. Everything I have heard was 100% the truth. The school takes the time to celebrate each student, build positive relationships, and have academic success. The teachers and principal greet me in the hallway and outside everyday, they communicate frequently through a variety of avenues, and always keep students as the focus. Great School.

I was so excited to send my child to Andrews after reading all the positive reviews. Unfortunately, my experience has not been the same as the rest.I am a single mother who works full time. I am not a PTO parent, I cannot volunteer in the classroom, and most nights I am running on empty by the time I get home. My child is in Kindergarten and every day is a struggle - not because he cannot understand the material taught, but because his experience with the daily classroom setting is poor. This is not our first classroom experience. My son was enrolled in a high-quality daycare from the time he was 18 months. At 2.5 he switched to a complete preschool curriculum and by 3.5 he was writing his name and starting the fundamentals of reading. Last year, I enrolled him in GSRP and he excelled. He loved going to school, loved his teachers, and all the reports back were that he was kind, creative, and bright. This year is quite different. At 5, he comes home from school and tells me he feels like he is "the worst." He tells me how his classmates treat him poorly, how he feels that his teacher doesn't like him, and he has anxiety every morning about going to school. I've seen a sharp change in his behavior. My heart breaks for him and I'm doing everything I can think of to help him. From where I sit as a parent, the communication is not great. I get newsletters announcing events for dates that have already passed. My interactions with the staff have been 50/50 in regards to whether they are good or poor. There are dress-up days about every other month which, while fun for the kids, translate into a nightmare for some parents. I also tend to be behind the 8-ball because I missed a flier for a phone app at the very beginning of the year and now I do not get all the communications. (I've asked for another copy, but nothing came of it.)All in all, if I could be "that parent" who can be involved in the classroom and the PTO, things might be better. But, it's just the child and I, and one of us has to pay the mortgage. I'm looking into other options for the fall.

Love the teachers! Kids are excelling in all their work academically. Very proud to have my children attend Andrews, where they are respectful, responsible, safe, and kind.

I absolutely love this school!! The teachers are amazing, and the principal is involved with the parents and children! They instill great values into the children, and let them have fun while learning! I couldn't speak more highly of this school, it's teachers and it's principal!

They have helped my daughter Sophia Lyczynski become an 'independant reader' @ age 5!!!
