We've had a very good experience at Shrine High School with our two students. The college counseling, college prep curriculum, opportunities to participate in sports, and opportunities for leadership are worth the tuition price. The Math and English departments are strong. History is quite strong too. Science and the languages have room for improvement partially because of teacher-turnover. My kids were well-prepared for college. The small size has been good for my kids overall; sure I wish it was a bit bigger but I sense it is growing. Socially it is hard to initially fit in when some families have been together since pre-school but I have found the community welcoming overall it's just that people initially start talking with who they know. My kids had no problem finding friends. The Mothers Club and Dads Club were great ways to get involved and meet other parents. Its worth mentioning that you don't have to belong to the Shrine parish to receive the tuition discount as long as you are active at your own Catholic parish. It's not just a parish school and is attracting a diverse body.

Shrine High School in Royal Oak has a lack of organization. Their classrooms and the teachers themselves are unorganized. The academy counselor doesn't address the problems when you bring them to her attention. Most of the teachers are very nice, but they are all just unorganized. I would rate this less then one star but i cant so, one star for the food. They have a professional chef at shrine... but other than that i would NOT recommend it.

The staff and teachers are very welcoming and helpful. I feel so welcomed when I walk into the school. The expectations are to value yourself and others. To do your very best in academics and sports. They nuture the individual in many ways. The nice thing about a small school is they know each student and will talk to you and your child about her strengths and achievements. The principal is very professional. I think my daughter is a better person because of it.

This was my old school, and it excelled in the English and Literature areas. However, it lacks electives and a good math/science program. Everyone is welcoming, but the school is very clique-ish and once you're in a clique, you cannot really get out. Overall, it's a decent school, but I left because I was just sick of the same group of 70 kids.
