My children have attended Spanish Immersion at Rockford for the past 4 years and I am not impressed. My current 2nd grader repeated Kindergarten and we watched many of her classmates leave the program in both experiences with that grade. My 2nd grader continues to struggle and the only suggestions I get from the school is at home learning or a paid tutor which is one of the native speaking school assistants. My children have attended the summer Spanish program for retention and while my youngest seems to be thriving - it is simply not working for the oldest... with seemingly little help from the school teachers, principle and other staff. I am currently trying to find a space with Spanish, smaller class sizes and a place where they can reach and teach even those that struggle in early elementary.

This program has some issues. The SI (Spanish Immersion) teachers are fairly weak. Not impressed with any of them thus far. My child is behind in other areas, which makes me nervous. I'm not certain I made the right decision with SI. The new principal seems very nice, but I have concerns that he is not a strong leader--which this school needs. Parent involvement is strong at this school, which is great.

My older children attended traditional kindergarten at Roguewood Elementary. It is excellent but now the Spanish Immersion program incorporates learning a second language in the same format as the traditional program. Now the chidren are exposed to twice as much information. It really works and the children have fun too. I am not aware of anyone dropping out. I think the staff is less interested in parental involvement because there is a lot to cover and there must be no distractions. As an added benefit to this program, the teacher makes the environment very disciplined so learning can take place. There is no room for not succeeding and it is definately the programs goal to have complete success. What amazes me is my child is reading Spanish in kindergarten where my other 2 children weren't required to read until 1'st grade in the traditional system.

My daughter just finished kindergarten in the Spanish Immersion program. I have been amazed by how much she has learned as far as traditional kindergarten subject matter as well as the Spanish language. The teacher was excellent, the parents very involved, and the rest of the staff were also very helpful and involved with the children. My daughter loves the program, her friends, and all of the staff.

Excellent program. My children love the program and I am amazed by all the retention they have. I would strongly recommend the program.
