Unless your child fits in the 80% of the bell curve you will not have a good experience in this school. Our child has emotional and social issues and the school has no clue how to handle it. Our child is not our biological child, she came to live with us 2 years ago with PTSD and complex trauma. Our child transferred to the GLCS system when she came to live with us and GLCS "missed" a 33 page IEP that was in place in her previous school, then they fought us tooth and nail to put another one in place that was clearly necessary. When we were finally able to discuss an IEP with the school leadership the principal came into the meeting and opened with "If you're not happy with what we put together, I've spoken with our superintendent and he's happy to sign a document to have her transferred to another school." I was stunned since we had never asked for open enrollment, we simply asked them to do their JOBS! That clearly sends the message that they are not willing to do anything extra to help a kid be successful in school. Our child has come home complaining about how mean her 3rd grade teacher is everyday of the school year. From all of our communications with the teacher she is very rigid and inflexible which is the opposite of what's required with children with PTSD and trauma. Our child has regressed in nearly all areas of social ability as a result. They refuse to move her to a classroom that we know would be a better learning environment for our child. She recently came home reporting a racist club on the playground that doesn't allow black kids to play in the group. This school clearly has washed their hands of our child. She's too difficult and in our opinion, they'd rather just not deal with the kids that require a different approach than the standard cookie cutter education.

Overall we have had a positive experience. We enjoy being greeted by the principal with a smiling face, the administrator's office have always communicated well with me and have shown concern when my son was going through a tough time or had an injury. Most teachers are fantastic and genuinely care about their students. We especially appreciated Mrs. Kling and Mr Wright.

If you have a child with social, emotional or mood disorder. Then this is not the school for you. The principals were not helpful to me or my child, did not offer any solutions to his struggles. He got blamed for things that were not his fault and he ended up feeling like he didn't belong there. I pulled him out and now we're homeschooling.

The principal here will say anything to please you and do nothing to follow up on her promises. She is poorly informed and very demanding. I was very unhappy with my daughter's placement - which the school failed to inform me of until a couple days before school started. They refused to change her to another teacher. Information home was always spotty with promises to improve it, but they never came to fruition. The teaching staff is very nice, but overburdened and not particularly enthusiastic. The office staff is top notch.

I was very skeptical when I pulled my children from a charter academy and placed them into Gull Lake Public schools. Both of them had been in accelerated classes in the charter academy. Upon placing them into Gull Lake, I was very amazed. Where they once were able to breeze by with little or no difficulty, they now have to study. They are being challenged to maintain good grades and for that I am very happy. A bored mind can get you into serious trouble. I would also like to add that the sports are plentiful. My kids bounce from one sport activity to another and are very proud of their accomplishments.. The teachers and coaches are all excellent and I've not encountered one problem that couldn't be resolved. The Gibson family
