Just bad, the para-pros and the Special Ed Consult gave me stress, the teachers are ok but some are good and bad. But I give this a one star because my life got worse after 6th grade and I felt helpless.

It focuses too much education and not fun. Band teacher is good, the gym teachers are good, and 7th grade computer teacher is good (also the tennis coach). It's good but focuses way too much on education. Too much homework. Not enough gym. Assistant principal try's to be every students friend (good thing). Good sports teams and ski club. All teachers are good too. Reasonable dress code and not too strict of rules. Gives chances for sports.

I am a former student at Gull Lake Middle School and I love it. I love how much the principles are interactive when it comes to things like assemblies and pep rallies. The staff are amazing! They are always there to say good morning or a simple hello. If they feel that you exceed in a subject they will talk to you about advanced classes. I like the new technology that they're now introducig to the students. It is very easy to make friends at Gull Lake. The students at GLMS can be rich or poor and still fit in and make friends with anyone. We have nice extra curricular activites such as band and sports like basketball, football and many more.

Getting information from this school is like pulling teeth. The principal says what you want to hear, but just like all the administrators in the district there is no follow through. Communication about even mundane things is spotty. The edline website that is supposed to help parents stay informed is one of the worst designed I have ever seen. Now that I'm finally (barely) beginning to understand it, one of the teachers sent a note saying she isn't going to use it anymore?! The counselor was extremely rude when I called to ask about why my daughter's schedule was changed without them contacting me. We went to orientation and were told we could request our child be placed on a specific team. We chose based on the teachers' manner during the brief presentations (made even briefer by the stunning lack of attendance by several), she was placed on the other team.

After extensive research we chose GLMS for our gifted child when we moved to the Kalamazoo, Michigan area. In retrospect after two years now, we should have chosen Portage West Middle School. The administrative staff @GLMS in my experience largely consider gifted students to be a disproportionate (to the overall student population) burden on resources better spent elsewhere. While perhaps not the worst school choice we could have made, still very disappointing compared to what we left behind.
