Marysville Middle School Ratings & Reviews

Terrible. My child was pulled to go to another school after 6 months of enduring teachers more concerned about writing the date on a paper than learning content. He also endured teachers denigrating him for forgetting to turn in homework. One trmeacher told him to ‘grow up’.

It is a shame that this school is showing a low rating. From our experience and as can be seen by the data, the school is continuing to improve. Middle School years are tough years for most students, and the staff and leadership work very hard to make it as positive as possible.

While the school provides great opportunities in education, it can be far from accommodating for certain students. Expect to find the students with mental disability and the like to be sitting by themselves at lunchtime.

I am not sure why MMS has such a low rating. Yes, Marysville has a close minded, small town mentality (that's the town as a whole) but my son has flourished at the school. We moved to Marysville the summer before he started 6th grade and I was really pleased with the plan the counselor and teachers set in place for him. My son has an IEP and I have never had to fight to get his accommodations followed. A new principal started at the school in 2013 and she is great so that may be the reason for any changes that have taken place. I am sad that he only has one more year at the middle school because I am afraid for him to move onto the high school. That is a completely different environment over there.

"Where do I start? First, I agree with the others who say if your kid is a sports superstar, then they will shine. Otherwise, MMS is like a sentence served while trying to get to the high school. If you have a special needs child, forget it! They will only accommodate if it is forced upon them. Every single thing you want done is a fight. You'd think they didn't want to help these kids. Anytime you try and communicate, especially with the principal, you are treated like an annoyance. They punish for non-sensical things. They're ""positive"" behavioral plan includes not allowing kids who are missing one assignment in any class or who have a tardy to attend assemblies! Huh? That's positive? This school is full of teachers who have never left the county except for college. They grew up here and now they teach here. The lack of diversity is appalling. There are a few shining stars in the school system. The assistant principal is great but has an uphill battle because of the small town mentality of the principle. The school has a ""military school"" mentality- punish, punish. Finally, during lunch, the boys play one day, and the girls the next. If it's not your day, you can't play. Weird."
