Branch line has been life changing for my son who used to cry and beg not to go to school, he now can't wait to get there every morning.

If you need a positive alternative to substandard local public schools, this institution is not the panacea it may seem. While there are several excellent staff members, there are large gaps in the learning experience for kids who have average needs. The school attracts a large number of students with high needs and lacks the resources to cope with them. This leads to a disruptive classroom environment. Given the size of the actual classrooms, we find this problematic for the child without emotional or behavioral problems who is there to learn the classroom material. The upper level teachers are lacking in both patience and daily instruction. The leadership is not communicative, seems exceptionally disorganized and adopts a defensive posture when questioned. The tiny classroom leads to lots of germs, strep, lice outbreaks and almost zero communication when they occur. But most distressingly, there is a bullying issue that is well hidden. So much so that we didn’t learn the remarkable number of children having this issue until we started having frank discussions with other parents about their experience privately. If you need a stop gap through grade 4 and have a laid back child who can adapt well to turmoil, this might be worth it for those who need a short term solution to area school issues, but I would avoid for sure for grades 5-8.Plan for lots of change and lots of inconsistency.

My son was struggling with the amount of inattention he received in his previous school. His class had 30 kids. He has 17 kids at Branch Line. He was stuck moving along at the pace of the class and there was little to no ability for him to move ahead. Here he can work at his own pace and make choices about what he wants to work on during the day. The project based learning is also a great way for him to use his leadership ability and encourage teamwork communication. His last school was too rigid and too many rules. I could see his passion for learning being sucked right out of him and he was growing more and more resentful towards me because I couldn't fix it. We were both miserable. Branch Line has become a very welcoming and caring community to start the 2016 school year. I have seen a huge change in my son, mostly because he has more room to breath and express himself academically in different ways. He wakes up happy to go to school. He even wants to stay after school to play with other students. I see clear leadership and very fair handling of issues with students through peer to peer mediation which is awesome! My son is growing and reinforcing his communication skills to solve his own problems. We love the balanced calendar, it allows us to have breaks right when we need them. We are very happy that we chose Branch Line! My son really likes his teacher and has built a great relationship with her and all the staff. It is nice for him to know everyone in the school.

This is the third year that my children have attended Branch Line School. We love that they are treated and respected as individuals , the strong emphasis on a caring culture, the time that the teachers and staff spend on conflict resolution skills to really get to the root of the problem and to fix it, and the welcoming parent community. Moving to this school is the very best decision we could've made for our family!
