Great school....Not sure why the rating from Great Schools was reduced from a 7 to a 5?????? Makes me question the rating scale for the website in general which I used to take very serious.

This school is extremely good. The teachers all have a sense of humor and are kind to their students. This school also has the wonderful option of allowing students to earn high school credit while still in middle school. Students can earn credits in foreign language, english, math, science, and social studies/history. I did the advanced program and I liked it a lot.

Why do you love Harbor Lights Middle School? Great team teaching. International Baccalaureate ciriculum. BBYA book club led by librarians who are on the Newberry awards committee. Science Olympiad teams who place high in competition. A Grammy award winning music program and awesome athletic coaches.

My son has switched from an area charter school to Harbor Lights Middle School. From walking in the first time for a tour, I was impressed. We were worried coming from a smaller school to a larger school if he would get lost in the crowd. Advanced classes are offered in math, science, history and lang. arts. Students are not limited to classes at their grade level. They are placed where they need to be. Harbor Lights encourages excelling students sign up for NUMATS which involves taking the ACT test, something that juniors in high school who are preparing for college normally take. Extra curricular activites are offered including sports and academic activites. Science Olympiad, Math Counts and Lego Robotics teams have competed in regional competitions. Excelling students can even earn high school credit in middle school. The teachers are awesome, but tough and my son loves it.
