Grandville High School Ratings & Reviews

As with most posts, I agree the teachers and staff are very polite and good at their jobs. My rating 4 out of 5 is a result of the parent climate. Our family is quite well off, and my son is good looking, wears very nice clothes, and average hard working student and athlete. He could boast about his pool, movie theater, lunch budget, sports participation, etc. The issue is the parents attitudes of "outsiders". My son was in foster care for most of his life. We're not Dutch or Christian. And there lies the problems. Parents won't include us in planning, celebrations, or participation. This is noted by their children, and in turn they treat my son the same. Also coaches are reminded very often, who gets to play, get attention, and be groomed. I won't buy my son popularity or acceptance. I teach him to look beyond looks, money, and influence. See others for who they truly are, and respect everyone. We will continue to be good examples to my son, his friends, and supportive of the teachers and staff of our school. We will also reach out to our fellow "outsiders". You are a very important part of the community!

Let me tell you, Grandville HS has educated me better than any college course I have EVER taken. All the comments about clothes, race, etc. is all due to a lack of self esteem. I was not did not ever walk around with the most expensive clothes, I wasn't the most popular.... I disregarded all of that nonsense and excelled. I took three AP courses, getting a perfect 5/5 on the calculus exam. Bottom line, your at school to go to school, if you get distracted, its your own fault. GHS offers TOP OF THE LINE education. Whether you take advantage of it is your own decision.

Grandville is a bit of a hypocrite. There is no diversity and I've seen many kids get picked on just for being of 'color'. There diversity group isn't doing much to make it real diverse. This school needs help!

Grandville High School is a very different high school. It is Very exceeding in it's academics, but when it comes to what you where and the way you act, It's a whole different story. GHS's teachers, well most of them really care about you, and really want to see you exceed, and do well. With all of the programs, and classes they offer It's hard not to find something you like. But on the other hand, God help you if you don't have money, in this school you're either 'Rich' or 'Poor', the rich students have the nice clothes, nice shoes, nice cars, etc. And it is very easy to tell. If you don't have the newest clothes, then you are cast out, at GHS it's like the clothes make the person, trust me. And on the sports side, your either the best or the worst, just like with the clothes.

Grandville is a great school district; I wouldn't choose any other high school! There is a wide selection of courses in addition to the required core classes, and most of these are well-developed programs that stand out (even in comparison to other schools). While every school has its own share of low-quality teachers, it is equally true that I've met some of the greatest mentors in my life at Grandville. I will say this for the school: the opportunity for a fantastic education is there. The student will get back however much (or little) he or she decides to put it.
