I have always heard great things about the forest hills school. We were so excited about our children getting "the best" education. Sadly this was not our experience at all. We are currently in the processes of pulling our child out of the school and looking at private school.

A few teachers actually take the time and make the effort to support and identify struggling students. Many teachers, especially those who are "popular" tell parents what they want to hear and pass along students with good grades even though they have not learned the material. A teacher will come along who identifies that there is a problem, and you wonder what has gone on all the prior years, all those good report cards. I believe that the quality of education has slipped, whether this is due to the influx of students admitted through the schools of choice program from outside the district, or due to the new administration or principal I am not sure. The principal, while a good teacher, shows obvious favoritism towards some parents and is not the professional that is needed for this position. All in all having had 5 children through this building, if you think that Pine Ridge will teach everything your child needs to know to be successful in later years you are mistaken. Academically, language arts programs are weak due to lack of a phonics basis as well as little continuity between teachers in the same grade level and between other grades. Busy homework dominated many years, with one teacher making the packets for all the classes to complete, regardless of what is covered in the individual classes. This is not a school I would pick for my children going forward.

We moved into the district a few years ago and were so excited about being in forrest hills schools. After a few years with are oldest child at the school we were sad that we weren't happy with the teachers or new principal. We live close to the school and decided to drive our youngest child to a different school within the FHPS district. We wanted to switch our oldest to the other school as well but she really liked her friends and we will try are best to work outside of school. The parent involvement is amazing.

This school has a high level of parent involvement with the goal that no child gets left behind . The new principle was a great teacher for many years and you can see the difference in the staff and students with his leadership .The kids love their school in this community , which makes this a great place to learn .
