My three children have had a great experience at City School. The teachers are able to provide a personalized learning program that has helped each of my children to be their personal best. After my oldest fell behind while attending another elementary school in Grand Blanc, I was able to find a better fit and learning environment for him at City School. He graduated City School completely caught up with his peers because the teachers went above and beyond for him. If your child is serious about learning and they are willing to work hard, this is the right school for them. I couldn't be happier with the 4 teachers at City School and love the excellent and challenging program that the Grand Blanc School district offers. I also love that all of the parents are involved and put education first in their homes. I'm thankful that we don't have to look outside of the Grand Blanc school district to get the best education for our children.

Contrary to the negative reports that some are leaving on City School, this school is an EXCELLENT learning environment. It is, however, VERY challenging. It seems that many of the parents that have reported a negative experience have reason to do so. They didn't like or want to hear the truth - their child could not thrive at City School the way they have thrived at others. My own oldest child was challenged by this school at every turn. It's the best BECAUSE it's hard!!

City School is not a school of choice, but rather a school of 'their' choice. The reason this school maintains such high test scores is because they stack the odds in their favor by going to any length to weed out children that might bring their testing stats down. I would not have believed the treatment that we as parents and our children experienced there. Even contacting the superintendent is futile in calling out the actions perpetrated by the teachers and director there. I never expected that the bullies we needed to be aware of would be the people entrusted with educating my children. It is a travesty there is not greater oversight for a school using our tax dollars to educate a select few. I wish I could undo our time there as my children would be all the better for it.

I was really disappointed with this school. Grand Blanc has a lot of great schools, unfortunately City School isn't one of them. The students take a lot of fields trips and they use alternative methods for teaching, however the staff does a poor job of actually helping students. A lot of the time the teachers don't seem to really understand what they are trying to teach. They sometimes become so focused on completing a project that they don't really explain to the students the concepts behind the project. They also seem overly focused on test scores. If a student doesn't score above average on standardized test, they will "suggest" she change schools or be held back. One last point - the math can be ridiculous. To add 22+29, since twenty-two is two more than twenty and twenty-nine is one less than thirty, then the sum is one less than fifty or forty-nine. Simple right :(

This school is incredible! The 5th grade teacher is the best in the nation: demanding, tough, but also compassionate. She will bring out the best in every student given the chance. My daughter had her for 3-4-5 multi-age. That teachers' passion of teaching children how to learn; care for others; to be responsible for everything they do in their life; can never be duplicated. It is not for everyone. If your child wants to be coddled, needs a lot of direction, is unwilling to be organized, unfocused, or lazy-go somewhere else. If on the other hand, you want your child to be given the gifts of social conciousness; exemplary work ethic; expanded learning of social studies, science & math- way beyond what is required; unique outside field trips that further learning; close working relationships of parents and teachers-send them to City School. If you can't attend meetings or volunteer, leave your child at the regular elementary schools in Grand Blanc. This school needs parental participation and a willingness to allow your child to fail, so they can learn to succeed for the rest of their lives. This program was so great; I wish it had gone all the way thru high school.
